I think Wayne Bennett proved the value of how important a great coach is a very weak Queensland side just schooled NSW. Filter picks a 5/8 and a fullback in the centres doesn't pick a utility on the bench and was outcoached plain and simple this is why I don't hold high hopes for Walters as Brisbanes coach.

Where was Keary when we needed him

attacking with 12 men had 2 sets of 6 at them surely they could’ve found an overlap
In saying that New South Wales didn’t attack well all night
yes it may have been the offside defence and some of the ref calls didn’t go our way but...
Cleary had a fair game and tried hard
Walker and Wighton out the left side was non-existent
Gsme 1 2nd half and complacency was the one that cost them the series but with all those players we supposedly had to pick from we couldn’t find blokes that could get it together in attack... QLD looked good in attack
maybe the little Pap from Melbourne should’ve been playing

I will say this about Damien Cook as much is his quick out of dummy half and can get them back-pedalling, when he gets towards the line he seems to turn sideways or slows down looking for support I think sometimes with his speed he should just actually take the line on more and try and bust a tackle or two

Anyway as others have said .. bring on 21

Now this just raises more questions than it does answers..

1) I thought you said I had no friends? Why now 2?

2) Why do my friends look and act exactly like me? The only people I know who have friends that do that go to shore college.

3) Exactly what type of websites are you visiting so late at night?

Great match last night though.. A true nail biter but the right team won.

I’d give my left nut to get Bennett back at the Dragons.

fitler couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Looks like he studied his trade at the McGregor school of coaching.

this is up there with the most embarrassing SOO loss next to the 95 series.

Dragons: we are going to play mediocre footy and let our fans down again because we’re shit merkins

NSW: hold my drink

If Barry Beath gave up a nut to get Henry Tatana to the club then surely you need to give up both to get Bennett?

Bennett makes it simple.

Pick the bloke who’s right for that position and let them know what they have to do.

Multiply that by 17 and you’ve got the structure of a good football team.

And as the old adage goes, a star team will defeat a team of stars.

Walker and Wighton weren't given enough ball and when they were it was late and too slow. How many times did Cleary try to run into gaps that weren't there or take too long to shift the ball wide. Our outside men got nowhere near enough ball unless it was taking hit ups for our lazy forwards ( Haas was an embarrassment ). The Fox was wasted out there.
I thought Pap should have been on the bench from game 1 or Gutherson on the bench and Lomax or a specialist centre on the field.
Overall I found it a very strange performance from NSW, so many good players but no direction and completely out-enthused by Qld. Gagai should be Man of the Series, best player 3 games in a row.
Bennett's a magician, people who bag him have no idea, people who underestimate him are even stupider.

Yes- "Funky" Fittler sneeringly debunked the Dragons coaching team as "old school". Well, Bennett is probably as old school as you can get as a coach. Pick players who are specialist in their positions and manage them individually and collectively so that when they go out to play they have the confidence to express their skills within a simple game plan.

While I have always been and always will be a Blues supporter, part of me was pleased to see the stupid grin wiped off Funky's face. Hopefully Hook has success with old school methods as well.

The bananalanders defense was first class , in short they brutalized the living crap out of N.S.W.

The Jai Arrow incident was awful and unnecessary - I do hope that the judiciary banned the beggar for a couple of games next season . All in all the Queenslanders deserved their victory , however they really received a lot of leniency from the referees ( maybe they are related to that Barry the ‘ Grasshoper ‘ Gromosell fellow ? )

The try to young Harry Grant did not look like a try - he appeared to be short of the line .
In saying that years ago the ball had to be placed over the line , since on the line and now if you are just short well that’s ok too - just as long as you are a Queenslander ! :flushed:

At least the blues never threw the towel in and I really thought that a penalty try should had been awarded to Ado Carr , however not to be .

For the whole game my 13 year old son was shouting they're off side! Referring to the Qld side. What is the ref doing! Refferingto the holding down, pushing and holding in the play the ball, slowing NSW down.

Gutho is not a centre, Walker had a very quiet game and our edge forwards kept turning back into the middle. Maybe Mary was advising the NSW coach for this game. Having 3 locks and a prop on the bench was a bad idea. We needed two props and a utility player on the bench alongside one of those locks.

All night the kicks were often not deep enough and not deep into the corners with chasers pinning Qld in the corner.

Qld deserved their victory as they were much better than NSW. Gotta give credit to the old fella Bennett. He would have loved that win last night. "Worst team in QLD", thanks Gallen, that is all they needed more motivation. Bennett would have loved hearing that from a NSW captain who never won a series. It's no coincidence NSW won their first series in a while once that joker retired.

NSW squad was good, just mentally screwed. Looks like they thought they can just turn up and they would win. Would not surprise me if they even had a week of celebrations ahead of the game thinking the series was wrapt up after 1 flogging.

Lets see if Fittler sticks with this team. If so then he is to blame as he probably had the mindset they won the series as well. If he drops a few then the players probably had that mindset and not him hence why he has dropped them.

If Klemmer was a Qlder he would never be dropped as he is made for Origin and has a heap of mongrel in him which is what you need for these games. But NSW being what they are, they drop players and pick flavours of the month. Same with Vaughn. As for Wighton, he should have been 5/8 as he too is made for Origin and should play his best possible position.

Agree about the Qld defence (the ten metres was a joke but I thought it was bad for both teams)- but, selections played a part as well. With the possible exception of Cory Allen who made a couple of basic errors, it was hard to think of a Qld player who didn't play to his potential. On the other hand, we saw the other side of Cody Walker- playing behind a dominant pack , he's a world beater. Last night, Munster ran rings around him and he was barely sighted off Nobby's. Cleary was playing them on his own.

So that raises at least one selection dilemma for "Funky" next year. I also thought Wighton struggled in the centres and Frizzell offered very little. We may have parted company with him at the right time.

Never been that successful in finding out what people mean when they say ‘ Old School’ Coaching .. appears to be that many use it as a short cut to refer to someone’s age rather that a particular method or style. Think it means aligning with traditional values and philosophies.. .defence, support play, backing up the man, enthusiasm, style under pressure, focus, never say die, right man right position discipline, attention to detail...if so does that mean Bennett values these more and Fittler doesn’t?

Or maybe Bennett’s experience and knowledge just resulted in him totally out thinking and out strategising NSW in Game 1 and 111?
