Ouch ! :flushed: The last 6 matches of the season are against Souths - Raiders - Panthers - Roosters - Cowboys and finally Souths once again .

Unless Griffin has worked an absolute miracle with our boys and actually has them firing on all cylinders - plus an extra cylinder for good measure - then whatever chance the Dragons may have had off making the semis could be washed down the drain thanks to those final 6 matches of the actual season .

That is a tough run home for any team , let alone one that is in the beginning of a rebuilding phase - damn tough .

Still may they give it their best shot , breathe plenty of fire boys as that will please me no end ! :fire:

Fingers crossed Gareth they set their season up in the early to mid part of the draw then see what happens. Mid year origin and injuries could hurt those sides in the run home.

I couldn’t imagine we would have many reps at all so possibly we could get on a run over the 6-8 week origin period

The big question for me is the famous Dragons second half fade....... will and can Hook correct this?

I believe he can, as I cant see us employing the same "powa" game as we've had over the last 7 years. In fact my opinion on how we will play will be a stark difference from what we've been witnessing. Speed, agility and smarts will be the new mantra. We may even see us, dare I say, offloading the ball!

Back to the draw, the last 6 games are, on paper and on our last 2 seasons (at least), difficult, but who knows how we will be performing at this point. We maybe deeply entrenched in the 8 to which these teams may even fear us, or we could be business as usual and be fodder.

Fascinating season ahead.

Yes gents you are correct in that the Dragons overall performances will certainly be much better than that of the previous 7 years . That plus as you have both pointed out , we could very well be much better placed giving us some breathing space for the final rounds of the competition .

I think that it will take me a while to come to the realization that the maestro is no longer holding the coaching reins , therefore the team will undoubtedly improve under the guidance of Griffo and company.

I’m not overly fussed on the last 6 games..

If we’re going to be any chance of being amongst it next year, those teams would be the ones we’d be most likely coming up against in September next year..

So if we can’t beat them in the regular season, how could we expect to beat them in the finals?

Drawing the draw: 2021 Dragons fixtures announced

GAME DAY

Dragons' 2021 NRL draw announced

St George Illawarra and the NRL have today announced the Dragons' fixtures for the upcoming 2021 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

The Dragons will commence the 2021 season with a huge local derby clash against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on Sunday, March 14 (6:15pm) at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The Dragons' first game at Wollongong's WIN Stadium will follow in Round 3 on Friday, March 26 (6pm) against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.

The 2021 draw has delivered one Thursday night, seven Fridays, five Saturdays and 10 Sunday games, the latter of which will include the Dragons' traditional Anzac Day fixture against the Sydney Roosters. The Dragons' annual clash with the Bulldogs on Queen's Birthday Monday (Round 14) also remains.

The Dragons will be hitting the road again in 2021 to Townsville (Round 2), Newcastle (Round 4), Brisbane (Magic Round), Auckland (Round 16) and Canberra (Round 21).

St George Illawarra management worked with all relevant stakeholders to determine our 2021 home game fixtures after obtaining the club's round allocations earlier this week, as determined by the NRL and host broadcasters.

"Allocating our home game venues is always an intricate process, one that was further complicated by the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic on other Australian sporting codes, when determining our 2021 home draw," Dragons CEO Ryan Webb said.

"Both our traditional venues in Kogarah and Wollongong will see their equal share of action in 2021. A huge local derby against the Sharks at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium is the perfect way to kick start a season, while we look forward to welcoming South Sydney and the Panthers back to WIN Stadium for the first time after many years.

"Our Red V members, partners and fans should still be very pleased with the quality of opponents, and for the most part, the family friendly home draw we have received ahead of our highly anticipated campaign."

That gives Griffin time to get the boys competitive.

By the time Saints get to the last 6 round they will be on 36 points. They will be resting the guys for the finals.....ok, wishful thinking.

In all seriousness, having the tough games at the back end of the season is the best way to prepare for the finals. Lets hope they get to that stage next year where they will be in the running for finals spots not fighting to avoid their first wooden spoon. 7 games at Kogarah, happy days. If the boys can win at least 10 of their 13 games on home turf that would be a great achievement and a step in the right direction.

The great Jurgen Klopp's (current manager of Liverpool) first target when he took over was to make Anfield (there home ground) a fortress. They just beat the record of 68 unbeaten games this week. Lets hope Griffin hits the same heights.

2021 NRL Telstra Premiership draw

NRL NEWS

NRL 2021 draw: Magic Round, Easter and Anzac blockbusters return

The 2021 Telstra Premiership draw features something for everyone with blockbusters throughout, the return of much-loved traditional Easter and Anzac fixtures, Magic Round, stacks of regional games and Origin back in the middle of the year.

After the chaos of a restructured 2020 and the loss of those marquee events due to COVID, each is back in the schedule for next year.

The traditional Easter clashes are back with the Bulldogs and Bunnies going at it on Good Friday in round four and the Wests Tigers hosting Parramatta on Easter Monday.

Anzac Round falls in round seven, with Anzac Day on the Sunday to feature a triple-header of NRL games starting with the Wests Tigers v Manly at Bankwest Stadium at 1.45pm.

The Roosters and the Dragons will face off at the SCG at 4.05pm with the Storm and Warriors from AAMI Park at 6.15pm.

After missing out last season on hosting an Anzac Round match due to the two-month shutdown, Townsville gets to host an Anzac fixture with the Raiders to visit Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday, April 24.

Magic Round falls in round 10 with eight games over three days and one Queensland team to headline each day's action with Manly v Brisbane on Friday night, Roosters v Cowboys on Saturday night and Titans v Panthers to cap off the round on Sunday evening.

nrl_tp_magic1080x1350.jpg

“This schedule is about our fans, our players and our clubs,’’ said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

“It rewards their discipline, determination and sacrifice last season. More games are in family-friendly slots, there are fewer five-day turnarounds and a more even balance of clubs in television timeslots.

“On the field, it will be anything but normal. Our clubs will have an off-season to consider new innovations from the Commission which will ensure our game is more entertaining and free flowing than ever before.”

Indigenous Round will be held in round 12 featuring matches in Sydney, Townsville, Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle and Coffs Harbour.

The Telstra Premiership kicks off on March 11 with a Thursday night blockbuster between premiers Melbourne and last season's fast-finishing preliminary finalists South Sydney, pitting master coaches Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett against each other.

Wooden spooners Brisbane start their season at home against recent tormentors Parramatta on the Friday night while the round concludes with a local derby between the Dragons and Sharks on Sunday evening.

The other round one fixtures feature Newcastle v Canterbury in the earlier Friday game, Warriors v Titans, Roosters v Sea Eagles and Panthers v Cowboys on Saturday and Raiders v Wests Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

nrl_tp_rd1_1080x1350-3.jpg

Round two features the Eels looking for revenge against Melbourne for their qualifying final loss at Bankwest Stadium on Thursday night, the Titans v Broncos local derby with David Fifita up against his former teammates at Cbus Super Stadium on Friday night and Trent Barrett coaching against his old club when the Bulldogs host the Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Bankwest Stadium.

The blockbusters ramp up in round three with a grand final rematch between the Storm and Panthers on Thursday night and Souths taking on arch-rivals the Roosters on Friday night.

In the 2021 draw, teams play three straight away games only four times compared to eight last season and total five-day turnarounds have dropped again from 26 to 25.

There is once again a mid-season representative round between rounds 15 and 16 which will feature State of Origin II on the Sunday; the pre-Origin split rounds land in round 13 and 17.

There will also be a record number of matches played in regional areas with 14 games played at 10 non-traditional grounds next season.

It would be tremendous if the Dragons could focus on such as a goal Slippery , that would keep the team in good stead in the end of season matches .

It’s actually a pretty decent draw for us.
Both grand final teams just once, Knights should improve, Parra should still be up there somewhere and Titans all once as well.
Travel not too bad and yes although no away game against Titans or Donkeys for us up here in Brisbane, we do have the Magic Round atleast to see the Saints play.
Good round for the Bue as well to freshen up a little two thirds through the Draw.
No excuses boys with the Draw, Train hard, have a great attitude with belief and actually listen to a proper Coach.
