@Suitman a client of mine bought a whole floor for $10m in the Crown Tower. For that you get 4 beds and approx 310m2. That’s about $33k/sqm. Soon after they were seeking double that and demand pushed it to $75k/sqm. That’s double Monaco and about the same as upper east or west side manhattan.

That's pretty impressive. I'm not sure if it's been beaten by a buyer who has purchased a 3 story penthouse at the top of the tallest of the 3 Renzo Piano designed towers being built right next door to Crown. I'm not sure of the price/m2, but the sale price was in the $150 million range. By far Australia's most expensive apartment.

Seen here under construction...

And proposed renders....

I saw that Grocon (formerly known as Grollo Bros IIRC, dodgy CMFEU rumours) have gone bust blaming Barangaroo + views.

Yes, Grocon HAVE gone bust. Melbourne based company blaming the shite at Barangaroo for their predicament.
It's not the towers that I mentioned above and showed in the pictures. That is in the South Barangaroo precinct.
If you look at the render above, you can see all those shed looking buildings behind Crown. That is Central Barangaroo. (BTW, it won't look like this when complete). That was the area of concern that Grocon had an interest in and you can see why Crown didn't want towers in that precinct. Yes, it was an argument over the views. The Renzo Piano designed towers don't really affect Crowns views to the Opera House and Bridge, and they are all under construction already.

Central Barangaroo is an enormous area, and the development design and plans are still to be released. It is pending soon, but has taken years to design and get through to even the release stage for public consultation, mainly due to this height limit issue. From what I hear, there will be a rather large shopping and restaurant precinct (Westfield has a finger in this pie) as well as low rise residential. The park in the above pics will be extended to Central Barangaroo and this area is where the metro station will also be.

It must also be noted that Grocon were the developers of the new incorporated IMAX and W Hotel in Darling Harbour.
One of the slowest builds ever!! It has been going on for years. Someone else has taken over the build. They had issues well before their excuses about going broke and blaming NSW. Typical Victorians blaming everyone else.

That one was most definitely slow as f**k! ... it never seemed to get anywhere

I used to work at Pyrmont, so saw daily the building of barangaroo and that one at imax.
But havent been in there since march, so missed its latest developments.

Visited that area a week before COVID. I was very impressed. Only going to get better.
True, but I bet there are a few developers who are nervous about the potential that new office space being created down there is surplus to the needs of a new post covid commercial office space market.

Parramatta Square to get Eels artworks in tribute to area

An eight-metre tall chrome statue of the bus bought by legendary Parramatta Eels coach Jack Gibson will be stood on its nose in the city’s new square.

An eight-metre tall chrome statue of the bus bought by legendary Parramatta Eels coach Jack Gibson for his premiership winning first grade team in 1981 will be stood on its nose in the new Parramatta Square precinct.

It is one of two artworks commissioned by Parramatta Council at a budgeted cost of $5 million to embrace a historic period in footy history and also capture the indigenous heritage of the River City.

“I loved getting on that bus,” said former Parramatta second rower Peter Wynn. “Because it meant you were on the team representing the Eels.”

Gibson bought the 1960s Leyland Worldmaster bus for the team to meet on after the stadium burnt down. That team went on to win back to back premierships in 1982 and 1983.

“It was a unique situation to be in,” Wynn said. “It’s a huge mark of respect for the Council to commission this and shows just what a big part NRL plays in the Parramatta district.”

The giant chrome bus is the brainchild of Western Sydney based artists Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro and will also capture other parts of Parramatta history including the story of The Flying Pieman, the 19th century entrepreneur.

“The aspirational tale of an imaginative gathering space of humble origins leading to incredible success is the central inspiration for our artwork Place of Eels,” the artists said.

“The celebration of the brilliant ‘can-do’ vision of Jack Gibson, manifested within the vertical bus, reinforces the idea that Parramatta is a successful, creative gathering space.”

Legendary Parramatta Eels coach Jack Gibson bought his premiership winning first grade team in 1981 on a bus that'll now be used as for an art installation in Parramatta

The second sculpture by artist Reko Rennie called Where Eels Lie Down creates two giant aluminium and granite eels to illustrate the Aboriginal heritage of the area.

They were selected from more than 110 submissions including from artists in the USA, Spain and Japan by a panel including representatives from the arts, design and council.

Councillor Steven Issa said: “There is no doubt these works will provide a ‘wow’ factor to Parramatta Square and become a local attraction.”

Mayor Bob Dwyer said: “These striking pieces tell the story of Parramatta – from our indigenous foundations to our sporting culture – and will become iconic landmarks of this great city.”

New artwork for Parramatta Reko Rennie's 'Where Eels Lie Down' indigenous artwork shows a fluro depiction of two eels.

The shiny bus statue has brought together the worlds of art and sport. Parramatta Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos said: “It’s fantastic that this artwork will be created as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Eels first premiership in 2021.

“The impact of the Eels first premiership on the city was significant and the use of such an iconic part of the premiership story pays tribute to the influence of Jack Gibson, Ron Massey and that legendary playing squad on the Club’s history,” he said.

Museum of Contemporary Art director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor said: “It is exciting to see Australian artists being commissioned by City of Parramatta Council for significant public art commissions in Parramatta Square.

“It’s wonderful to see their impressive commissions for Western Sydney which are deeply imbued with Darug, migrant and local community histories, and will create spaces for the peoples of Parramatta to gather and connect.”

But the artwork has raised one question – where is the original Leyland bus now? Peter Wynn said: “I don’t know – but I would love to get back on it one more time.”

AN ANZ WITHDRAWAL

As of Monday, ANZ Stadium will no longer be ANZ Stadium. The bank’s contract has expired and the venue will revert to its old name, Stadium Australia, from next week.

This could change next year once the naming-rights sponsorship has been put out into the market. The new stadium in Moore Park will retain the Allianz branding once it opens midway through 2022.

25000 workers for the Parramatta CBD.
+ Light rail, underground Metro to the city, 6 star hotels. 200 metre apartment towers.
Parra is going ballistic!!

Also, Sydney Uni moving west.

Sydney University campus for North Parramatta
Dec 11 Tele
A “world class” Sydney University campus will turn North Parramatta into one of Australia’s largest health, education, research
and training precincts when it opens but opponents have slammed it as “an unsolicited bid on public land”.

The State Government and Sydney University on Friday confirmed plans for the multi-disciplinary university campus in the Westmead Health and Innovation District, which is on the grounds of the historic Cumberland Hospital site.

The university hopes to attract more than 25,000 students and 2500 staff by 2055
and provide “affordable student and staff accommodation”.

The developments will include a Parramatta Light Rail stop outside the campus, which is on the northern edge of the Cumberland site
and next to the North Parramatta heritage core, where the government this week announced plans for a tech start-up hub.

Western Sydney, Jobs, Investment and Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said the plans would drive innovation and enable
the nation to become a world leader in research that “saves lives and cure diseases’’.

Mr Ayres said over the next 30 years, the innovation and health district was expected to create more than 20,000 jobs
and contribute an extra $2.8 billion of economic output per year to the NSW economy.

“Having the university at the core of the Westmead Health and Innovation District will help transform the district into a powerhouse of invention, creativity, and commercialisation, and home to world-leading enterprises, start-ups, researchers and students,” he said.

Sydney University’s outgoing vice-chancellor and principal Dr Michael Spence said the university’s expansion in western Sydney
was an economic, social, cultural and intellectual boost.

This once-in-a-century opportunity in western Sydney would build on our 40-year history at Westmead and create a genuinely multidisciplinary major campus that enables new partnership and innovation opportunities for all of Sydney,” Dr Spence said.

“We are committed to offering students in western Sydney more opportunity to study and pursue research with our incredible academics
to help solve some of the world’s most challenging problems.”

Parramatta state Liberal MP Geoff Lee said the agreement was a win for Parramatta and western Sydney.

“Westmead is already the largest biomedical precinct in Australia. The commitment by University of Sydney today will transform the precinct by offering a comprehensive suite of university courses beyond health studies. Parramatta City has established itself to be the education capital of western Sydney.’’

Ms Meade said Parramatta Council’s development control plan would allow for 25-storey buildings on the Cumberland site but a CFMEU green ban from five years ago remained.

In 2015, UrbanGrowth planned 1600 apartments in high-rise blocks for the Cumberland site but were canned after huge community outcry.

There are 4 towers within this picture currently under construction that will be taller than that Meriton building left of centre.

Whats your take on how the city has been developed? I know there were the ghetto jokes back in the day (which I'm sorry I contributed to), but where do you feel that Parramatta is at? I had a few meetings with the NSW Govt out that way before lockdown and couldn't help but be impressed. It felt so different to what I remember as a kid before our family moved north. A proper city. Thriving.

Too early to tell IMO. The whole CBD is a construction site. Time will tell if it becomes a thriving epicentre or a concrete ghost town.

My take is that it is a work in progress, but eventually will be a thriving part of Sydney. Gronk is right in one respect - it is a full city construction site atm. It is extraordinary what is under construction.
It will not, as Gronk put up as an option, become a concrete ghost town.
The reason I say this is that the whole demographic of the city is changing.
It used to be a low rise large shopping centre. Not just Westfield, but up and down Church street and the adjacent side streets. It then was introduced to a rather large police and law precinct in the 90's. A slight improvement.
Following that, came the post "City Extra is our best foodie destination" improvement, with the establishment of Eat Street in the mid 2000's.

But then, PCC saw the city's potential and started approving developments that kick started what is probably the largest revival since the town of Parramatta was established in 1789.

The difference between this and other somewhat benign development periods in the past is that this time, it includes a mix of residential, employment, educational, sporting, cultural and infrastructure improvements. Such as (and all are included in the following list)

* Western Sydney University now has 2 (and soon a 3rd), high rise campuses within the city. 1000''s of students in the city. Parramatta High School now has a high-rise 12 story senior school.
* Parramatta Square now will host thousands of new workers in 3 new office tower blocks. One being the largest office building in the country.
* We now have a new stadium and a soon to be excellent swimming facility.
* Improved transport options including the light rail, metro rail from the city with around a 22 minute trip, a recently upgraded ferry wharf and a new airport being built not too far away.
* The proposed massive Powerhouse museum beside the river which will be a major tourist attraction in itself.
* At least a dozen huge serviced apartment/residential buildings which will also add thousands of residents and tourists to the city center.
* 2 x 5 star hotels, attracting tourism.
* Far more foodie options than there already is with the opening of developments.
* A new hotel combined medical/hospital development right at Centenary Square.

- and there are many more other developments that I have not listed here. I haven't even mentioned what's happening at auto alley, the Leagues Club or North Parramatta. The Westmead medical precinct is going crazy as well with development, and so is Granville, on a residential scale.

Parra is going gangbusters. We are already seeing the benefits of this. It's a bit of a shite fight atm but that's the price we have to pay for development on a scale like this.

My meetings were at Parramatta Square. The department had just moved in and parts of the building were still receiving final touches but the size and scale was phenomenal.

Can't wait to see what the place will be like in another 5-10 years. I tend to agree that a concrete jungle seems highly unlikely.

I dont know if they already have things in place, but they have to get business to legitimately move in to the area .... they've never really got that to happen .... govt relocated a few things in the past but it wasnt enough

i worked there a few times in the past for both public and private ... the private organisations i worked for up and left cos it wasnt possible to attract a wide part of sydney as employees .... you simply wont get anyone from north, east of south wanting to work there - dunno if limiting to west works - maybe times will change ... there needs to be cross sydney transport options ...... or perhaps companies will move to work from home options and make it more viable
