MacGill definitely more dangerous, Lyon more consistent.

Impossible to really compare cos MacGill was second fiddle to the GOAT while Lyon for a very long time was our only option despite taking fewer wickets than a fourth grade part timer

That’s a fair assessment.

McGill was a fantastic bowler. Lyon knows how to control the game. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

John Snow could have been the greatest spinner of all time, if not for an untimely run-in with the sickle of satan ruining his spinning finger in the battle for world supremacy in 19-dickety-2
Had to settle for being the best and meanest fast bowler ever

He still bowled a mean googly at 175km/h though. And he invented both reverse swing and the Charleston Shuffle.

Funny thing about MacGill, in the tests he and Warne played together he actually outperformed Warne. Not suggesting he’s better than Warne, but it’s incredible how good our second spinner was.

Warne had the ability to tie down batsmen, at times he was impossible to score off.

Batsmen had a tendency to take risks againstMcGill because of this because they knew they'd get no freebies from the other end

McGill was a fantastic bowler no doubt. Can't separate him and Lyon, Lyon was bordering on plod for a long time but developed himself into an excellent spinner.

We've settled on McGill, Lyon and Warne as the best modern era spinners.

Who are the best Indian spin bowlers?

The difference between Lyon and macgill is that Lyon is actually a chance of contributing something when not bowling. Macgill was Chris martinesque with his batting and kamran akmalesque with his fielding.
