It doesn't matter what the law is and if he stupidly agreed to be released without any clauses to protect him if the deal falls through. If he agreed to the release to help us with our salary cap, the right thing to do, is to honour his contract. I don't want anything to do with a club that shafts people and dumps them on the scrapheap for no good cause. He bled for us last year and regardless of his past convictions he deserves loyalty. If the deal collapses and other players suffer, so be it. I am sure the club can come up with a plan B.

If he asked for a release, well that's a different matter, it is up to our discretion whether we take him back.
From what I've read, he was granted a release so he could sign a 3 year deal with Leeds. Sounds like it was player-initiated & I can't see anywhere that the club has shafted Zane or dumped him on a scrapheap.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if the club is now trying to see if they can find room to offer Zane a deal if he can't get a visa.

I completely understand why Penrith aren’t releasing him, I’m just shit stirring. No doubt Laurie will be promoted to your top 30 (like Parra did with Uto last year). I’m impressed Laurie isn’t complaining and happy to see out his contract.

Give him a year at the Tigers and see if he still not complaining and trying to get out of his contract. That’s when I’ll be impressed.

Lol Hooper. Stirring up shit again.
The Tigers forum (not LU) for the past 2 months has been talking about targeting Crichton. Either the fanciful idea of getting him or at least driving up his price, so we pay more. The penny must have finally dropped for Hooper - 2 months later. Surely a Packer to Penrith story must be imminent? Followed by a story of the old grievances between both clubs.

A couple of days ago this fool said Souths were targeting Nofoaluma, only for Souths to sign Mansour and Nofoaluma to re-sign at the Tigers.

It really depends if the release was conditional or unconditional.
The club agrees to release you to Leeds. In return Leeds agree to release Ava to sign with Penrith. That is if the rumours of Ava coming to Penrith are true.
On the other hand it could just be a simple release.

Kenny Edwards has a chequered past. Including pleading guilty DV. Yet, he got a working visa in the UK.

I particularly like the encounter Hooper had with Mal Meninga earlier this year.
That about sums up his creditability.

From the Beetoota Advocate.

As a spectacular season of NRL and NRLW football concludes, Australian footy fans now await a November State Of Origin series to wrap up a year of rugby league football that many had written off in March.

Journalists, players, trainers, family, board members, and ground staff have all chipped in to give the fans something that distracts them from the grim realities of a global pandemic. And all deserve praise.

However, there are a few names that stand out from the rest within the rugby league community.

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy continues as one of the most winningest coaches in the modern game, alongside hooker Cameron Smith who has captained the side from 2008 right up to last night’s 26-22 Grand Final win over Penrith.

The father-son pairing of Ivan and Nathan Cleary also deserve praise for the Panther’s 17 game streak that took them straight to a knife’s edge decider.

ARL Commissioner Peter V’Landys will also be remembered as the hero of the 2020 Season, as he worked tirelessly alongside CEO Andrew Abdo and Junior Pearce to save the game from a lockdown.

However, there is one mainstay of the rugby league arena that no one can really remember.

The bald bloke from Fox Sports that isn’t Sterlo or Gordie. He’s known as James Hooper.

Even the players struggle to remember his name, unless they have been directly targeted in his tabloid rugby league blogging – like John Bateman and the younger Melbourne Storm players were throughout the season.

This lack of recognition in the game comes as a body blow to Hooper, as he works tirelessly to become the new Buzz Rothfield.

However, it seems the most crushing ‘Good to see ya mate’ seems to be ones that come from his idol and Fox Sports colleague Mal Meninga, who has today had to refrain from asking Hooper what his name is, for the 14th time this year.

The former Canberra Raiders legend and the super-coach behind the Queensland Maroons decade of dominance has today been left stumped after once again forgetting the name of a bloke he feels like he’s met before.

“f**k” Mal whispers to himself, as Hooper arrives in the lobby to appear on some panel show to talk shit about the Storm players who sent him a barrage of abusive text messages in the early hours of the morning.

“Think Mal, think”

“What’s this bald bloke’s name?

“Iss it Herbert? Hipwell?”

Hooper is gaining on him, and they’ve caught eyes. Mal begins to panic, and starts planning a getaway, before he is saved by the grace of God and a name comes into his head.

“Aha there is he is!” roars Mal, as Hooper approaches, with his hand outstretched for a big non-COVID-friendly handshake .

“Peter FitzSimons!!! How the f**k are ya!”

That hooper article seems like a bit of beat up.

Its tough one re Zane, if the release isnt actually official then we dont have much choice re the contract, if the release is done then we should do our best to help him but at the same time is it really our fault that he cant get into England? Maybe a reduced contract could be the answer. It all depends really.

Yeah the betoota is a satire site. All their articles are for humour.

With Zane offer him something at a reduced rate like you said. Keep him and look after the salary cap while at it. He could still be on $200k - $300k.
