Normally they play early Nov and the pitch is always fresh, most decks after christmas are belters. But it looks very dry for a day 1 deck with cracks and barely a green tinge. It's perfectly made for your best mate Da GOAT!!!
They were discussing this on ABC, looking at Shield stats over the past 20 years. Apparently batsmen averaged 31 before Christmas and 28 afterwards!

When AB started as skipper he was the only player earning a living playing the game, and when he retired they were all on the road to the gravy train. He missed the boat and never made the money others did but he never seems to be jealous no matter how much an absolute plank like Matty Wade is earning poldding it up.

Yep, it was pay dispute that led to the gravy train of the "revenue-sharing model" (implemented by the ACB) after the 1997 Ashes IIRC.

Hardly a surprise the King suck up Tubby Taylor was the boards man while selfish Steve Waugh was on the players side especially State cricketers who got paid SFA before the dispute.

Taylor would still be playing and skipper now if the board had their way.

correct.
He wanted to retire after 1994/95 Ashes but didn’t want to go to Pakistan so said let Tubby deputise and get a taste of captaincy. CA / ACB said it wouldn’t be right so AB retired.

Sad that someone who played 100+ tests bowed out in such a manner and didn't get the big farewell that Warne/McGrath/Langer got at the SCG in 2007.

When I think about it, several 100+ test players were unceremoniously pushed out, most notably M Waugh, Boon and Healy.

M Waugh and Healy pretty much retired after being left out of the squad for the upcoming home test match in Brisbane, Boon was given the subliminal message from the selectors to bow out after being omitted from the 1996 World Cup squad (and the Aussies weren't going to play another test match for 9 months, would've been 36yrs old by then and Ponting was pretty much making the #3 spot his own from his ODI form)

Ponting and Hayden both played on one season too long IMO, but eventually got the "tap on the shoulder" by the selectors. Clarke also got the tap on the shoulder just before we lost the 2015 Ashes series.

Ponting, and Hayden, same as Boon, but both played on one season too long IMO. Clarke wasn't the same player after Phil Hughes' death and also got the tap on the shoulder just before we lost the 2015 Ashes series.
Steve Waugh got treated the worst out of all those players, if he didn't get that famous 100 at the SCG he was gone and forgotten even though he got 70 odd the test before at the MCG. He had the ODI captaincy taken off him and then was pretty much asked when are you handing the reigns over to Ricky. Even though he'd done so much for aussie cricket the only Bloke who had done more was AB. Hohns tried his best to push him out which is amazing when he is now happy to pick absolute nobodies like Wade,Harris and Burns.

Boon.M Waugh and Healy all played a year of two too long.

Hohns i absolutely despise him, he is a fossil out of time.

Really? I didn't know Mr Futjitsu was a suck up.

But yeah, 2 years before the pay dispute, Tugga was instrumental in the formation of the ACA that led to the pay dispute:

Really handy partnership between Green and Paine there at the end. Hopefully one or both of them will go on with it tomorrow.

50/50 day in the end but disappointed with most of the dismissals.

Tubby Taylor was the biggest suck up of all time. If you look at when that fat f**k finally retired the chairman of the ACB begged him not to retire even though he could barely hit the ball of the square.

Was laughable when you had blokes like Waugh and Warne waiting in the wings.

In 1997 if Tugga didn't get his 100 in each innings we lose that test match and probably the Ashes, the fat f**k gets dropped and loses the captaincy. He was a fine captain and very good tactially but his batting was always pretty f**king average as captain. Poor Micheal Bevan had to bat @ 7 just to cover a captain who struggled to score a run for 18 months.

Tugga was such an all time great he outmaneuvered Hohn's backstabbing shittery, which was awesome. 2003 he averaged f**king 80 in test cricket and they were shuffling him towards the door!

Never understood what Hohns had against him personally but clearly there was something. Even his dropping from the ODI side came across as arbitrary scapegoating, sure he hadn't had his best year but he wasn't performing badly. It was like he copped it for the fact the NZ worked out half our top order.

There was another travesty, Bev should have played near on 100 Tests. The excuses were laughable too. Deadset, 19k First Class runs at pretty much 60 across the strongest period in Aussie cricket history but he can't play the short ball?

Pull ya dicks!

Yep, we didn't make the finals that year but if i rememer he scored more runs than most.

He couldn't wait to push him out the door and as an all time great deserved much better.

But if you listen to people in the know if Waugh doesn't get that 100 at the SCG he was being moved on which is outrageous becuase he was captaining one of the greatest teams of all time and had gotten a 70 odd in his last test innings. If a spud like Wadey gets a 70 it's time for a parade and the backing of the selectors for another 10 decades. Hohns is yesterdays man and should be moved on for someone who knows what colour TV is,
