Imagine being to young to know how good a footballer and athlete Brandy actually was.
The only Panther to win either the Dally M medal or the Dally M Rookie of the Year, and he won them both. With the help of Brad Izzard and Royce Simmons, he took Panthers from a team who'd never got near the finals to a serious challenger immediately, then made the cutoff in his second year. It was no coincidence. It then took the emergence of further star players in the late 80's, such as Geyer, Cartwright, Fittler and Carter, along with some astute recruiting, for the club to take the final steps.

The Dally M is worthless and should never be used as a measurement for anything. A corrupt award voted for by Newscorp stooges

Mid eighties on were exciting times for us panther fans.

The Dally Ms is just a flawed system. It favours spine players for one thing. Also if you are the best player in a bad team you are likely to get points most weeks, there may be better players in the same position playing in a stacked teams struggling to get any points.

Back in the early days it had some cred. The 3-2-1 voting was always ridiculous. It's as though they don't think the judges or the public could understand a RLW type system. They should keep it under cover from the start.

3-2-1 might of been a carry over from Rothmans award. Given the voters were journos you won’t want the criteria to be too complex, ever seen a bunch of drunks trying to work out a bar tab.
I’m still confused about why no one from Penrith won a Dalley M or Rothmans in 90 or 91

Lack of transparency would kill any remaining credibility and would allow them more room for bias and incompetence.

Was told on Monday our three main junior sides were playing trials this Friday night out at Windsor Stadium. Cant seem fo find any details anywhere? Can anyone confirm times and opponents. Wish I’d asked for details at the time but just took it for granted.

how about those Crisp Alexander passes!
GENIUS. Once Gus solved the fullback issue by getting Greg Barwick, the 91 side could beat you anyway you like. You need speed? Barwick, Smith and Brandy gave us pace. You want to be bashed? Sure, we can do that, let me introduce you to MG. Don't stand too close, we haven't fed him yet. A passing game? Dally M halfback and Australian five eighth and captain do for you? Next, you want to be beaten by skill? We got assists and passing (Brandy and Fittler), offloading machines (Cartwright and Geyer), kicking (Brandy's tactical kicking was brilliant that year), oh and you want footwork too? Freddie show em your WTF move, you know, the one where the defender is left grasping at thin air as you step past them and goes "WTF"?

The 2003 side were good, but to me the 91 side had more skill in the forwards. The 2003 pack was tough and athletic but MG and Cartwright were very underrated ball players, they caused havoc in their day. The 2003 pack were more a bash it up the middle and then bash it some more, pack.

The 91 side finished as minor premiers with the most points scored and the least points conceded. Just a great allround side. They had to be bloody good to beat that Canberra side and they were!

David Greene was never fast, but he was safe, sort of like Caleb Aekins. Peter Peters used to call him the Commonwealth Bank. He suited the way the side played and I'm not sure if he was injured in early '91 or if Gus just wanted the faster Barwick, who did have his best ever season that year.
