Money for nothin': How the Brisbane Broncos stars spent hours blowing $10 A SPIN on pokies and didn't even know what time their game was on - before suffering the club's worst loss EVER

  • The night before, eight players were allegedly spotted in Harpoon Harry's hotel
  • They gathered in the pokies room until 11pm, according to eyewitnesses
  • Players arrived for the crisis meeting which was held in Brisbane on Thursday

Brisbane Broncos stars are believed to have spent hours blowing $10-a-spin on on poker machines on the eve of the glamour club's humiliating loss to the Parramatta Eels.

The embarrassing revelations come as the players were seen sheepishly entering a crisis meeting and end of season review at the club's $27 million Clive Berghofer Centre on Wednesday.

Club officials warned they would consider the players' behaviour during the meeting after six players were seen at Harpoon Harry's hotel near Syndey's Oxford Street on Saturday night - just hours before they were trashed 58-0 by the Parramatta Eels on Sunday.

Matt Gillett, Anthony Milford, Corey Oates, Andrew McCullough, Payne Haas and David Fifita are the players believed to have left their hotel without their coaches knowledge.

McCullough may well be be sweating about his future after reports the veteran hooker was expected to be told to move on next year.

Fullback Milford was also believed to be on thin ice at the club with reports he was on his 'last chance' after the 11-tries-to-nil loss to Parramatta.

Winger Oates is off contract and yet to re-sign for 2020.

The pokies scandal also looks bad for Gillett who had been linked to the Broncos captaincy amid speculation skipper Darius Boyd would step down following their finals shocker.

'Given the players were about to play their biggest game of the year they should have been more professional in their actions,' a Broncos statement said.

'The club will take this into consideration during the end of year review process currently underway.'

McCullough spoke out about the scandal on Wednesday.

'You've got to be smarter with the decisions of putting yourself in those situations,' McCullough told HIT105 radio station.

'If we had won, we wouldn't be talking about it but since that wasn't the case but there may be an issue there.'

The group apparently spent time in the pokies room, playing $10 hits and left at about 11pm, although Fifita is said to have stayed longer on his own, Fox Sport reported.

They left the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park hotel without their coach Anthony Seibold knowing, according to media reports.

The players were not seen drinking any alcohol.

On Saturday, the team had dinner together at 6pm before they were shown a highlights reel of their performances to give them motivation.

Afterwards, most players retired to their rooms but it appears six decided to kick on.

'They should have been more professional'

In relation to media reports on the actions of Broncos team members on Saturday night, the club has spoken to a number of players.

From those conversations, we understand that a small number were playing poker machines at a venue close to the team hotel.

Others called in for a short period on their way back to the team hotel from the shops.

There is no suggestion the players were drinking, and our entire squad presented at a team breakfast at 7am the next morning.

Players aren't confined to the team hotel on away trips once their team commitments including dinner, team meeting and sports massage have been completed.

Over many years, the club has placed trust in the playing group to do the right thing in regard to their pre-game preparation.

Given the players were about to play their biggest game of the year, they should have been more professional in their actions.

The club will take this into consideration during the end of year review process currently underway.

Haas arrest hurts Broncos culture reset

Brisbane boss Paul White admits attempts to transform the NRL club's culture under new coach Kevin Walters have suffered a setback with Payne Haas's weekend arrest.

The 21-year-old representative forward was arrested and subsequently charged by police after an alleged altercation at Tweed Heads in NSW last Saturday night.

Haas will face Tweed Heads local court on February 2 after being charged with offensive language and intimidate police officer.

He'll also be the subject of an NRL integrity unit investigation which could come with playing and financial sanctions.

It's the first off-field challenge for Walters as he aims to erase the horrors of Brisbane's 2020 campaign, which included the first wooden spoon in the club's history.

"Any incident like that would," White said when asked if the matter was a setback to Walters' transformation.

"We'd had an incident free pre-season. The players had returned from the Christmas break in good shape and things were tracking well.

"Our roster was in good shape. Kevvie's got all his new staff in place.

"Anything like this is a setback but we need to own it as a club.

"Payne, first and foremost, needs to own it and Kevvie will obviously be a part of that process. There's a lesson to be learnt. We have to take those lessons."

As well as Brisbane's on-field struggles in 2020, Haas had a difficult year personally with the death of his brother Chace.

Having been suspended for the first four matches of the 2019 season and fined $20,000 for failing to comply with an NRL integrity unit investigation into a matter involving members of his family, White said it was on the youngster to make better choices in his future.

"On any given Saturday night, there'll be plenty of people that are approached, who've had a bit too much to drink, who police would have an interaction with who make their way home safely and without incident," White said.

"The poor decision was the way Payne responded to an approach by place and he's found himself in a situation which is totally unacceptable."

Great culture at the Broncos.

Details of Payne Haas’s explosive and expletive-riddled showdown with police have been revealed in court documents, with the Broncos star telling a female cop: “‘Cause you’re a woman you think I won’t touch ya’.

Police facts reveal Haas was confronted by two police officers at Jack Evans Boat Harbour on Boundary Street at 10.00pm on January 16.

He was with his partner and immediately became argumentative and aggressive towards police, the facts state.

When asked for ID, Haas replied “F..k the ID, I don’t need to give you ID.”

“You got a badge on you and you think you’re a f..king tough c..t. You put my family in jail you c..ts,” Haas continued in his tirade.

He told one of the officers: “Don’t come near me bro, I’ll f..king jab ya, on my mother’s life I will.”

“Get the f..k out of here bro, get the f..k out of my face or I’ll take all of you on myself you f..kwits.”

Haas looked at the second officer and said: “Why you looking at me like that? Cause you’re a woman? Cause you’re a woman and you think that I won’t touch ya?”

Both officers felt intimidated and placed him under arrest.

Wow, some serious issues this kid has got, if being a fckwit can be classed as an issue? Can see this only ending one way unless someone can reach him and turn him into a decent human being sooner rather than later, should be thankful he wasn’t born in America, they would have shot him for less!
