My father in law and I will pull out the old 1981 gf DVD and give it a whirl.
Tommy's try from a scrum early in the second half was a beauty. Old Newtown fans dared to dream but unfortunately for them it galvanised Parramatta to the point where Newtown were then unable to make ground with the ball whatsoever. It wasn't until the last 10 minutes that the Parra backline finally broke free and put on three late tries. Gus also had a tremendous game.

Also remember him appearing in an ad for Jax "the ripper" tyres, introduced by Johnny Raper (then Sharks coach) as Tommy Ridiculous.

Does anyone know the story of a young Peter Sterling being too scared to enter the car park before a game, because Tommy was looking for him with the aim of softening him up hours before the game even started? It sounds like urban legend but hey, it’s Tommy so sounds ‘bout right. Can anyone shed light on it, if true?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but Tommy would always tell the story about how he tossed Turvey’s bag straight out the window in origin camp because he tried to claim the big bed.

Kent and Ikin got one thing right.

Les Boyd was as mad as Tommy on the field but always an intelligent, class act off it.

That was seen in England, at Warrington, where he is still idolised.
