Of course it's a win for AFL. The Lions get a state of the art new stadium plus the Gabba will be on the newly built cross river rail line.

I am not sure how they plan to do this though, there is no room to build a bigger stadium at the current site. There is not enough room there for the current stadium! There is also a heritage listed state school behind it. They would have to close down either Vulture or Stanley street and build over the top of it.

Anyway that's 10 years away. You would f**king hope by then Brisbane has a 2nd and maybe 3rd NRL team but LOL who the f**k knows with this code.

ARLC Commission chairman Peter V’landys has used one of the most emotional and memorable days in the game’s history to declare the code is on a mission to return footy to Sydney’s suburban grounds.

V’landys said the code was working on a strategic plan that would ensure every Sydney club would avoid ever having to take games away from their local area and largest supporter base in the suburbs.

“It’s all about tribalism, it’s all about your suburb and it’s all about your team,’’ V’landys told 2GB.

“At Henson Park, it shows why you need suburban grounds.

“They (fans) want to be able to walk to their facility, they want to be tribal and we’re not going to give up until we’ve got all teams playing out of suburban grounds in Sydney.

“I was very proud to walk into Bankwest last week at Parramatta, it’s such a great facility, it’s got the latest technology, you’re close to the action, you’re well looked after, but that’s just one club — you need to do it for all.

“You need to do it for Manly, you need to do it for the Tigers and the Bulldogs, you need to do for the Panthers and that’s going to be one of the main objectives of the Commission, to get these suburban grounds (updated) and go back to the good old days of tribalism.”

The rest just talks about Tommy.

It doesn't tell you much but sounds like the idea of 4 mini Bankwests has even been shot down. Are they looking at upgrades to all the stadiums instead.

Lol, nothing says Sydney tribalism like 11k in the burbs.

The new Gabba field will be longer (east - west) to accomodate a running tract and more narrow. It will be shaped like Optus in Perth rather than the current MCG/SCG almost round shape. It fits.

So you’re thinking the new Gabba could be suitable for rugby league, say like, ANZ?

As a fan of sports it is pretty sad that the olympics wants (seems to be begging) Brisbane to be the host city. What ever happened to the Olympics?

Massive amounts of corruption and greed, being a money pit for host nations without any real long term benefits, screwing athletes over by making billions of dollars off their backs without giving them a share in the profits, do I need to go on?

With the possible exceptions of FIFA and the NCAA, the IOC might just be the most detestable sports organisation on the planet.

Yep.
But the Lions will have to play games elsewhere for three years (29 - 31) so that may be an opportunity to get more fans to attend Brisbane 2 (and perhaps Brisbane 3) matches.

Short term maybe gain for RL, for long term prosperity for the AFL when they get their new shiny $b1 palace delivered to them and the public will want to see and be part of it.

Will Kogarah Jubilee be a full knockdown an rebuilt like bankwest, or just replacing hill areas with new stands

I don't think that's been determined yet but if they're spending 200million or what ever the figure was quoted then that's likely a full knockdown.

Yep.
It sounds like the Lions will take home games to Melbourne and Nth Queensland during 2028 - 2031 while the new Gabba is constructed. There may be no AFL in Brisbane at all for three seasons as their new training/AFLW stadium in Springfield will only hold 10K. Other games will be at Carrara.
So Rugby League needs to have its medium and long term strategies for Brisbane in place ASAP to take advantage of this. Any new team(s) must be bedded down by then, to take advantage of this and claw back support. There will no doubt be an uplift in Lions crowds once they are playing in Australia's best stadium from 2032.

why would you spend that sort of money on a stadium for 6 games a year? Are dragons going to move there full time or is there other tenants going to use it?
