Barcelona are 500 million Euro in Debt. RM are 350 million Euro in debt.

Understand, but it's not like that figure is way above CL or their domestic leagues TV money.

The only difference was the guarantee, of a spot, which these clubs basically have anyway.

All the big Euro clubs seem to be in massive debt, which in itself is criminal.

I do love how the fans decry a greedy league one week, but will demand they sign a 90m Euro forward the next.

if the smaller nations want a better deal - would they not be better served being part of bigger leagues so their bigger teams would be able to attract more money and spots in European tournaments

e.g. Portugal+Spain, Scotland+England (and NI, Wales, Ireland), Belgium+Netherlands (or join with France/Germany)

This might see only 1 or 2 teams from the smaller nations in the top flight e.g. Celtic, Porto - but if they are top then they get a spot in Europe

They tried.

UEFA and their national bodies won't allow them, and if Continental places aren't in the offing it reduces the value of any such competition greatly.

Champions League final being moved to Porto instead of Wembley to enable 2000 dignitaries to attend instead of 20k fans. UEFA will never change.
