Anyone else think that we are wasting a bench spot on a winger ? I don’t get the Dunster sport in the bench. Not saying he’s a bad player just that it’s a waste. Surely hipgrave or Greig get that spot.

If Fergo goes down in the 10th min and Rankin is our utility what do we do?

with niukore at centre we can’t have another out of position player in our back line imo.

Once Blake is back Marata will cover the spot that Haze is using up. Good to know we have a bloke on the bench who can Slot into the centre’s so comfortably.

The question is, who is better to cover injuries in the backline.

A shit reserve grader who specialises in the backline, or a nrl first grade forward that can get a job done?

And if we need another forward during the game, Dunster can be used to shuffle around the back line and Marata can move to edge or middle defensively.

Arthur's said we were barely using that 17th player so we're better off using it for injury cover.

Yeah as per above, it's not like we don't have that fourth man in reserve to cover the forward rotation if needed, it's just that we are planning on not needing it.

Also even if only for limited minutes here and there, Dunster being on the bench is getting him game time in firsts.

Obviously using him like we are, it speaks to BA believing he is a part of our seventeen moving forward.

I wish there was a plan to ease the workload on Rheed. I believe this is our biggest failing. A similar situation to the overuse of Jnr and RCG last year but that's definitely improved. Rheed is vital to our chances in 2021.

At the moment, Drown should fill in a he adds little to our attack. Bryce to 6 during that time

Agree, obviously at this point none of our backup 9s are impressing enough to get the gig. Maybe once Smith is back this will be taken with more focus. Its possible Reed has requested to play the 80 with origin selection in mind, he's been mentioning how much he wants it of late, so may be wanting to make a claim that he can provide quality 80min service. Realistically if Grant goes down, then Reed is next up.

Either way if he continues to play 80 each week, i'd be targeting a couple of rounds to give him a rest at the back end of the year and freshen up for the last 2 big weeks and then finals. Maybe rounds 21 and 22.

My mail is that there is a plan.
BA has learnt a lot over the last couple of years about better using his bench and when development players become eligible, we will probably start to see Roache make his way into the 17.

My mail is we are also preparing Rheed to be able to play 80 quality minutes. It’s not like he’ll be the first hooker ever to do that

Sure but we already have the 'first grade forward that can get the job done' starting in the backline. Until he goes back to the bench we should have an actual back on the bench just in case.

If everything goes to plan, the 4th guy on bench is a non-factor.
If a backline player goes down, Dunster becomes important.
If we’re just playing shit, is a Rankin, Hipgrave or Greig going to make anymore difference than Dunster?

Their load during games doesn't affect them through the season because their load at training is adjusted based on activity on game day. These are pro athletes, training several days a week. An extra 20 minutes during games is meaningless in that context. But their minutes during a game does impact on their performance in that particular game, which is why it's a coaching call to decide whether keeping your best forwards on for longer helps or harms the team.
