If we’d have held on to Aloia we’d have had a pretty decent pack this year.

Aloiai is a massive loss. If we'd kept him and not bothered with Tamou we'd be a better team. In stating that Manly paid big dollars for him. I understand why because he is killing it for them.

Bends the line more than Tamou.

Tamou is the captain but also our worst performing middle forward. He hasn't been bad either. It's just that Tamou, Twal and Joe O are all similar players. Joe O has a bit more to his game than the other 2 but starting with all 3 isn't working.

I was pessimistic at best when we signed Tamou, just reeked of another player getting their last big payday from our genius recruitment department. He's been around successful clubs and teams for long enough to make an impact on our rabble, yet I barely see him barking orders at anyone. AD seems to have taken that on.

Douehi has been good at 5/8, not perfect but solid. Been the best Tiger on the park in most games this year.

cant agree, he’s got zero line speed like the good halves and that’s where the game is now.
His standard play is to run sideways looking to pick up runners outside or dump it back inside. All done off the back foot and behind anything that resembles the advantage line

more damning is his effort plays. He’s a jogger. Paces himself beside the play. Go back and watch the replays of the tries against us in the last 3 games. You’ll see AD just plodding along on the edge.
He doesn’t stay alive. A lot of the tries he could have got to a position to pressure or stop. He refuses to put in

thank god his gone. For all his faults Mbye will at least give some speed to the attack.
I assume Madge has been smart enough to work that out

If Joe or Twal played for the storm they would be stars

people seem to forget half the game is defense

it almost feels like Marshall all over again.
No use scoring / setting up 3 tries if you arm grab and let in 3 tries yourself.

One things for sure is Madge has certainly put his head on the chopping block. If we win he’s a genius, if we lose, heads will probably roll.

Wests Tigers have never been about defence unfortunately, something I thought Madge was going to change.

I'll go back and look at the replays, happy to be proven wrong, but don't currently have the same opinion on Douehi. Sure, he may have missed a few tackles, but he isn't robinson crusoe there. Do agree on the effort plays though. Miss a tackle is ok, if you stay alive and compete to make up for it.

Doueihi is not the issue and the move is only temporary , in my eyes. But who would you rather play in the centre’s...Brooks or Doueihi?
I think this move is probably the best way to blood young Madden in.

the true elephant in the room is Mbye, who must have pornographic images of Maguire because he seems immune from being dropped

I’m hoping madden kills it this weekend and the foreseeable future so we can put this halves talk to bed.

That's one thing I have noticed about Douehi that gives me the s***s. He will miss tackles but make no effort to get back and help out afterwards.

When we were actually a decent-looking side for about 6 weeks in 2018 we were winning the 1% plays and showing effort and heart, which is something I can't see from anyone in this team at present.

As I said, go back and watch the tug boats defense. It’s been poor

It’s not pointless if it’s because he doesn’t have a go. Just as Trollhammaran also said above:thumbsup:
I've just re-watched the highlights of the past few games. There was 1 try in the Titans game in particular where Douehi was slow to recover, but he wasn't on his own in that exact play (think it was Twal play-watching as well). That looked poor I agree.

That said, there were other efforts of his to chase down on our left edge, only for Titans to spread it wide the next tackle and it was 4 on 1, so the efforts (or lack thereof) aren't isolated to him.
He's still young and learning to play 6, I'm prepared to cut him some slack whilst he has to control the majority of our attacking play because others just don't step up.

Given the way the side has played this year, it may well be the case that a 5/10 player has been the best. Certainly no claim to fame. He has been average at best.

I don't think that is fair but I get what you are stating. He has been our best player. I'd also add that I think he has been moved to give us a threat out wide and maybe even to try and sure up the defense out wide.

Yes and no.
Yes he will add to our attack out wide. He is big and surprisingly elusive from 10 out when running the ball.
No he won’t sure up our defence. He is too slow and will get burned for speed. His technique is not developed enough to compensate.
He is likely to score a try but let 2 past him.

Our defensive issues come from a lack of communication, winger rushing in leaving an overlap, 2 defenders going for the same attacker leaving a hole etc. If we learn to talk when defending, we stop half of the tries that are scored against us. It's easier said than done when Ponga is chiming in at speed, but surely this is worked on at training?

Ponga nor playing, that should even it up a bit, as long as we turn up?
