Yeh no way that that the Brisbane survey area is anywhere near the size of Sydney's
As a complete guess, I would think this makes the populations somewhere around 5.5 to 3.5m.
Yeah it was a bit disappointing, what happened to the days when nearly all Origins had a close finish. It`s only that lack of a close finish that stops all these Origin games being thrilling viewing.Great ratings, will be interesting to see if the NRL sell the broadcast rights seperate to the season.
Only negative is that it wasnt a great advert for our game.
QLD played 'high percentage footy ' 5 hit ups and a kick and NSW looked more clunky than the local suburban u12 team.
State of origin has surpassed the Melbourne cup as the one sporting event that the whole of Australia watches every year
Hosting a neutral game in afl markets has been a big reason for this plus a great money spinner
The series was getting a bit tired when either nsw or qld got two games a year
Melbourne Origin and GF TV audiences are growing impressively. Those Perth and Adelaide numbers are awesome
Melbourne too
Lots of room to grow that Melbourne figure too
We absolutely froth Origin up here though. A decider is the pinnacle of the RL season for most QueenslandersBrisbane 1/2 the population as Sydney and only 85k less. Is that accurate?
That's one perspective.Great ratings, will be interesting to see if the NRL sell the broadcast rights seperate to the season.

Yep, this is how it is viewed from a non NSW perspective. I know Blues fans are disappointed but it was thrilling stuff in QLD and probably most neutrals around the country that just tune in to see big brother get knocked offYeah it was a bit disappointing, what happened to the days when nearly all Origins had a close finish. On the "advert for our game part" I think there were enough moments of sublime skill for the casual to appreciate. Interestingly a Pommy contributor to the SMH`s comment section responding to comments of a `dull` game said that as a union fan who knew little about League he found the game "engrossing".
Alot of this goes to demographics. A lot of Sydney RL hotbeds Kogarah is the perfect example is now a high Chinese heritage.
Who generally aren't into RL. Brisbane gets most of their migration from the Southern States as opposed to overseas
Yep. Responding to taunts from Brisbane (and Perth ffs) is pointless. The fact is the ratings across Sydney for a Wednesday night fta program were outstanding..
A lot of what ? I mean ..it’s hard to really criticise the ratings in Sydney right, even if they are not as impressive as the Brisbane ratings ? No other sports annual event comes close to these ratings in Sydney …AFL, cricket soccer Union..forgetaboutit
Blues fans would've been disappointed for maybe 5 minutes. I mean sure it would've been nice to win the game but I for one would much rather my club win this weekend than the Blues win a 3 game series that I've seen them win 20 times before.Yep, this is how it is viewed from a non NSW perspective. Fun fact NSW have only ever won 17 seriesBlues fans would've been disappointed for maybe 5 minutes. I mean sure it would've been nice to win the game but I for one would much rather my club win this weekend than the Blues win a 3 game series that I've seen them win 20 times before.
you got the overall numbers I was looking and couldn’t find themThe AFL’s defending premiers on primetime 7 in Brisbane rated 57k, barely beating out an NRLW game between two Sydney teams which rated 48k on 9. More evidence that qld is now an afl state…
Looking at that graph it also puts it as the 4th highest all time. The growth on that chart is insane as well, not suggesting it’ll keep going up like that but it’s a positive sign seeing such consistent growth after that pretty steady decline. The 2025 Origin Series was the best rating series (aggregated averages) since 2014
