So basically the nzru is making juniors sign a loyalty agreement that they won’t play rugby league and if they do there’s a good chance they won’t be picked for any all black sides

And they are complaining that league signing their juniors is impacting how strong the all blacks are

lol as always people on this thread were talking total bs about what happens in nz

Union is just a grubby grubby sport
It didn't say the bold at all. In fact it says that they have discussions with the players and parents. One of the "stars" the article mentions (Manuleleua) was with the Warriors and playing for league rep sides and was still chosen for the NZ Sec Schools.

Quite frankly it's another one of the bullshit articles cooked up by the Telegraph and probably cowritten by a NZ Herald writer. I just checked and it's the same writers who have written similar articles in the past with much of the same stuff. It's just click bait that has worked on first you, and now me. 🤣

For one, the loyalty agreements aren't new, they've been around for years. We've even been through this in the thread earlier where there were examples of league ones too.

Let's set aside for a moment the fact that league clubs are signing schoolboys on agreements which the article also highlights, so not sure why you're melting down over NZ rugby doing the same thing.

Last year, we revealed how some powerful rugby schools are flexing their muscle over rugby league in New Zealand, amid allegations students at the prestigious Hamilton Boys High School were being pressured into turning their backs on the Warriors junior pathways.

It’s understood the school has since eased its stance, and even released a number of its First XV players to participation in the New Zealand Rugby League National Secondary Schools Tournament this year.
I can't believe they're still peddling this bollocks. This was an issue of the player not being able to honour his commitment he made to the 1st XV due to Warriors commitments. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too. They always allowed their players to participate in the schools tournament as long as it doesn't conflict with their rugby commitments

Aren't the NRL threatening 10 year bans for players who go to Union?

Yeh, it's a bit rich thinking players on scholarships for one sport, will have no dramas playing another "in- season".

It's hardly "code wars" it's just common sense.

Hey it’s offseason and cricket bores me to bits

I’ll take clickbait articles at this time of year

And the quote from the crusaders guy is what I said nz nrl sides should do and pick the eyes out of union junior pathways and get all those kids in the under 16s and up

The NRL has a fulltime staff member that reports directly to the NRL CEO & ARLC chairman with one of his goals being to help prepare the game for NZ2 & you lot are focussing on school boys playing games.

Players that are in Rugby League pathways in Australia who have management teams aren’t allowed to play in other sport competitions when that clash with their RL commitments either.

So is team 20 going to be Orcas or Kea? Although I see benefits in having Kea, my preference is Orcas.

I don't really understand either. Union training could undermine League training and vis versa.. I could see the conflict of interest. It's not controversial to me.
I'd rather the South Island Mana.

I’d be happy with either brand, both have ties to the area.
Finally good to see the NRL putting serious focus into NZ, wonder what will happen if their goals ever conflict with the NZRL though? I would like to see NZ producing players for NZ teams rather than generic NRL though
