Nah mate, it's just a forever war that is in our heads. Everywhere outside of Australia, RU is perfectly cooperative with RL and the two sports actually help each other out. That's what I'm reliably informed anywayThanks
Article also talks about how the New Zealand rugby union has plans to stop kids playing rugby league
Gobs and Tito will be very interested in this as we were told by people on here there is no code war in nz and union are the good guys
Curious if you even know what Mana means? Not sure it would go down too well and would probably go down like the pukana curse of the Warriors lolI don't really understand either. Union training could undermine League training and vis versa.. I could see the conflict of interest. It's not controversial to me.
I'd rather the South Island Mana.
I see, kind of like US college football. My old high school it was the schools paying them
No, not Union, only R360 as it's a non sanctioned sporting body looking to profit from other (RL & RU) league's development investmentAren't the NRL threatening 10 year bans for players who go to Union?
In all honesty, the biggest strength of the NRL is the diversity of squads. There's not really any teams that have a disproportionately local talent in their top 30.I’d be happy with either brand, both have ties to the area.
Finally good to see the NRL putting serious focus into NZ, wonder what will happen if their goals ever conflict with the NZRL though? I would like to see NZ producing players for NZ teams rather than generic NRL though
More Kiwis on the GC than Auckland!View attachment 107972
Wonder why just the 1 kiwis pool games in NZ? Aus in Sydney I can get but v Fiji in GC is a bit odd?
Im guessing lots of kiwi expats on the Gold Coast.View attachment 107972

Yeah as the Warriors proved the local talent soon went elsewhere , however from a selfish pov enjoying both sports I’d be fine with league getting the players for a local team but if they were going to an Aus team I’d rather they stayed with the local union teamIn all honesty, the biggest strength of the NRL is the diversity of squads. This is a strength as it allows the brands to cross boarders, race and ethnicity.
Having a South Island team will create pathways and opportunities for players without leaving the Island but that doesn't necessarily mean that's where they'll stay.
Hopefully it results in more Kiwis playing League and a stronger national team, well it obviously will!
A big part of a players development for some, is leaving their comfort zone.
Aussies have been finding their best footy at the Warriors and obviously Kiwis have come of age in Australia.
A South Island team will give locals a solid start!
But it'll probably be similar to the GC where they produce lots of local talent and they all come of age some place else.
It's actually pretty rare you get a Johnson, Jones or Cambell.
More kiwis on the Gold Coast and south east Queensland region likely to attend the game than in New Zealand sadly.More Kiwis on the GC than Auckland!
Tends to be more Fijians in Aus than NZ I believe? There’s been plenty of political tensions between NZ and Fiji last 20 odd years. Cookies I guess it’s closer if they wanted to come from Raro- knew a few n North Island but not sure there’s a heap in CHCH?Im guessing lots of kiwi expats on the Gold Coast.
should have been Fiji in Christchurch and Cook Islands on the Gold Coast.
It means different things to different people. Everyone I met in NZ gave me a different answer and they were all just as cool. Can mean prestige, a spirit or force that lives in everything or pride.Curious if you even know what Mana means? I think the best teams going forward are ones that focus a lot on local juniors like PenrithIn all honesty, the biggest strength of the NRL is the diversity of squads. There's not really any teams that have a disproportionately local talent in their top 30.

Kiwis on the GC have good high paying jobs and a modern stadium to attend.More kiwis on the Gold Coast and south east Queensland region likely to attend the game than in New Zealand sadly.
Yeah things are moving that way and it's great for clubs to have that identity.I think the best teams going forward are ones that focus a lot on local juniors like Penrith
Titans look like doing that under Hannay
Always have imports but a good core of locals
If titans do it they are going to be such a strong club
Same for warriors or any club with a large junior catchment
Yeah you got some of the aspects, it’s one of those concepts that doesn’t have a direct translation. Just not sure it would be a popular choice due to how it’s obtained being a sports team? There was a stink (and a curse if you believe in such things) due to not getting the tongue right in the original Warriors Logo, might see it avoided for similar reasonsIt means different things to different people. To me and my translation in English I would say Heart.
My favorite word of any language.
There's the Melbourne Heart in A League and to me this is in that style of name with a distinctily Kiwi flavor.
I think it would be cool . But I'm sure the resident Kiwis will disagree because.. I'm Gobsmacked and I don't understand..bla bla bla
Understand with professionalism sport players have become essentially mercenaries but I feel some of the community feel was lost and keeping as much of that as you can is beneficial. Otherwise it’s just x number of players that happen to play in a particular location this yearI think the best teams going forward are ones that focus a lot on local juniors like Penrith

It’s lost a lot of it but league used to be you grew up in that area idolising the players and wanted to grow up and emulate themUnderstand with professionalism sport players have become essentially mercenaries but I feel some of the community feel was lost and keeping as much of that as you can is beneficial. You can't please everyone. You can take many sports franchises around the world and how some people would have complained to begin with... Yankees, 49ers..Yeah you got some of the aspects, it’s one of those concepts that doesn’t have a direct translation.
