New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

There's a article this week quoting the Crusaders about the juniors going to NRL..
When an NRL franchise is on his doorstep with 15 million to spend in players, juniors ect..
Basically out bidding NZ's most successful Rugby franchise 3 to 1..

That's a f**king blow mate.

It's actually going to deal an even more massive blow than I thought!
💥
We've discussed that article in the thread above, the Crusaders CEO is a whiny hypocritical bitch.

The article said the warriors have signed 26 players from union juniors
Sheesh we discussed this months ago, and this is why I recommend not taking those articles as gospel. Lots of those guys were league players who were going to rugby schools - because the majority of schools are rugby schools.

Are you the son of a tech bro? You think $384 a week is pocket money for a 16 year old????
Once again, which planet?
get some phone credit $40, public transportation $50 maccas once a day $100, movie $40, new T shirt $50.. ect

It's nothing.

I'd say you live under a rock but even these days they're getting pricey 😭

So, for the record:
You don't think an NRL franchise parking up in Christchurch poses any threat to Union?

State clearly for the record please 🙏 lol

Damn, my 16 year old niece is going to be pissed off when she finds out that $384 p/w is what she should be getting in pocket money. Not sure her parents are going to be happy with me though.

No, unlike you, the majority of NZ sports fans don't hate one sport over the other, they can both happily coexist.

The only people who seem to think otherwise are you and the equally loony CEO of the Crusaders.

Hilarious.
How many corporate sponsors are in NZ ? How many hours do people have free to watch sports for entertainment?
How many teams can kids play sport for on the weekend?
How much sporting merchandise can people afford or be inspired to to purchase?

If it's not League vs Union and you think that they will both live in perfect harmony..
Where are all these additional things coming from? The players are going to devide into 2
Corporate into 2....

You're living in fantasy land.

And yes you can like 2 things. I like NRL and Boxing mostly but I don't really have the bandwidth for more sports than that.

There's NRL all weekend and I can't really watch all of it, why would I waste time watching some watered down, slowed down version of Rugby with a third of the talent participating in it,

And the majority of Kiwis that I've met have literally switched over to NRL because it's faster a more exciting. They still watch the All blacks of course but that's about it.

When NZ2 comes in.. it's Friday night, their first game ever!! And the Crusaders are on at the same time.. they're watching the NZ2.. and many will never go back .. that's a fact.

So do schoolboys play Harold Mathews and for their school?

Do you know if they're getting paid at that age like the article said?
Yes. HM & SG cups are very early in the year. At my school we had kids playing for our school team as well as being contracted play in HM.

I believe they get paid as part of a development contract of some type. .

Culturally might just be a different thing.
Majority of NZers I know aren’t watching a whole round of NRL OR Super Rugby/npc, they’re Watching the Warriors and a game involving their super/npc team and maybe a couple of others(of either code) if there’s time.
As example I’ll generally watch the Thursday NRL game as it’s on at the pub after training, the Fri super/npc team is at a perfect time as work finishes if my team is playing and often the late Sunday game of NRL. Some weeks it’s more some weeks it’s less depending on spare time. That’s relatively typical of what I know of most NZ fans.
I rarely watch more than a max of 2 super games- only ever watch my province in NPC
Warriors will trump if there’s a clash live but it’s easy enough with streaming that scheduling isn’t that much of a big deal as it used to be.
Aus tends to be more of what ever camp your in and you watch majority of the round.
Outside of how it effects the Warriors I struggle to give too much of a shit who wins between 2 Aus teams.

I'm not talking about culture. It's not a problem that people watch both, have at it!
That's a break down of your weekend, cool.
Warriors Trump anything and the Left bower will be NZ2.
Someone on the South Island might watch Highlanders, Crusaders and Warriors.
2 out of 3 games they have time for now are Union and it ain't bad for SR.
Friday: Warriors
Saturday: Crusaders
Sunday: Highlanders

NZ2 comes in ..
Friday: Warriors
Saturday:NZ 2
Sunday: Highlanders

A very simple example but NRL goes from 33% of the average sports consumption to 66%
And
SR goes from 66% to 33%

It's a savage blow to Union in NZ.

Can see your point but the maths is way off, only 20% off the population MIGHT drop a game.
NZ 2 won’t necessarily convert as much of the North island as one might think. If they get ‘crusaders syndrome’ they’ll be deposed by 80% of the country.
Warriors may drop a bit of support too

They’ll still support them against 16 Australian teams ….

They won’t be getting Crusaders syndrome because they aren’t going to have no where near that level of success…although them winning the competition before the Warriors do wouldn’t be a major shock…

That's an example.
Most of the changes will be generational.
A 10 year old boy when NZ 2 comes in, that'll be all kids talk about at school..
Who do you follow? Will be assumed to be Warriors or NZ2.. that's when it becomes cultural.

Despite your final pronouncement none of this is a fact.

In fact this post reminds me of the article I posted from 1992 where league was predicted to take over when the Warriors arrived. All those 10 year old boys were only going to talk Warriors ...

It's funny how the majority of Kiwis you've "met" have "switched" over to the NRL yet only the Warriors get any decent ratings.

Crusaders dislike is generally related to their fan base- hopefully NZ2 don’t inherit that aspect from chch.

I kinda pick you for about 55. I think speed everything is changing is leaving you behind and more so with each passing day.
And I'm guessing it's about 10 years since you last lived in NZ..
You have not idea about the generation coming through, especially in NZ.
You talk to your 50 something year old mates and think you've got your fingers on the pulse.
You haven't got a clue.

1992... Lol

The waiting a while is an issue - NRL needed to be going now on NZ2. Strike while the iron is hot.

And yep, that's why I can never support a Cantab team.
I'd love to see NZ2 now but something tells me the iron is only getting hotter.
