I thought about Spencer but can you carry both him and Patea in the 17?

It could work.
Depends on who stays and who goes.

Our pack is going to change a lot over the next few seasons. 27 and 28 in particular.

Sorro and Henry going. Garner likely too. Some kids coming through. Clarke, Armstong and new buy in Crosby. Maybe they fill the void? Maybe someone comes up.

But more departures might come end of 27.

There could be a view to what the sides looks like in 2028. Leota and Yeo are both off contract end of 2027. Both could go. Leota would be 33 and Yeo 34 in 2028.

Say we sign Spencer for 27 and beyond. The view would be 28. You could have both him and Luron in the team. Smith moves to lock. You could have Luron as a starter. Spencer off the bench. Papalii' could be the other starting prop.

We are going to need new forwards. Some will be juniors coming through. Some might need to be experience bought elsewhere.

So all these targeted signings for NSW CUP. Has me wondering. Has the junior well dried up? Or more the ones coming through are a few years away?

Its being plundered very regularly. Weve got former penrith kids all over u/16 and u/18 rep teams. Parra has taken a couple really good ones recently

Yeo isn't going anywhere, ever.

Liam Henry was a stand out in Flegg and NSW Cup. He had NRL stamped all over him. I think he is just going to get better and better. I understand he can’t knock back what is obviously an offer we can’t get anywhere near but I think we will miss him.

we'll miss him - but he's not getting alot of minutes here - Patea suits our dynamic better as low minutes high impact

Garner Martin, Sorro & Papali'i all can play long minutes and Paps doubles in the front row
Yeo & Mitch can fill in mid game in the front row to rotate the bench into the game

Martin will go into the front row soon surely (cue @Chins demanding this start in the 2026 trials :p)

Henry is a popular player- but he's surplus to what we need and not fair to his development to get limited minutes

he'll do very well at the bears

I’m clearly in the minority everyone seems to want the vastly unproven Lurin Patea. That’s fine i get it. But premierships are built of the back of workhorses, big motor players, high tackle efficiency, the tough carries. Liam Henry will have his best season in 2026 and perhaps only then will we realise what we will be missing.

I don't keep super close track of journalistic track records. Is Masked Panther regularly on the money? I think I've heard the "former player wants to come back home" rumour a dozen times at this point and off season is the time you need a bit extra to get the eyeballs.

FWIW, I agree none of the big names really seem likely. Spencer probably the top of the list in terms of likelihood, but not a particularly good fit for us atm imo.

Henry currently the better player but Patea the better fit for our bench. Liam offers no impact.
