I'm such a fan of this!
It's promotion, promotion, promotion!
This is how you do business!

Middle east made a small bid for the WCC but I'm sure PVL will get far more than the 1 million rumored.
Love the idea of Japan as it's on my list of countries to visit.
The one region of the USA that has the best little toe in is Florida and staging a game in Miami would do them wonders!

Not sure about the Vegas extension until we see how the next 2 years go, crowd this year could be down on last year, I feel like we've already played our biggest pulling clubs.
Imo he’s using Miami as leverage to get Vegas to pay more

With tourism to Vegas collapsing. And this event worth maybe 100 million pa to their local economy they can afford to pay way more than 2 million pa

Five million usd pa means it makes good profits going forward in addition to being a massive season launch for the game

With sponsors, corporate / box sales and gates of 40k it would be making profits of 10 million pa Aussie which is excellent

Corporates love an overseas junket. This helps them service their exisiting sponsors and leverage new ones and new investment in league

There’s a business conference this year the nrl is involved in

NRL enlist comic Jim Jeffries, craft Aussie menu in attempt to bring Down Under to Vegas for opening games

The NRL is going all out in their efforts to make the Las Vegas games feel as Australian as possible. And while there will be no Holden cars, a few Kangaroos will feature.

International comedian Jim Jefferies and the humble meat pie are ready to share the stage with Stephen Crichton and Clint Gutherson as the NRL supercharges the latest bid to take over Las Vegas.
Jefferies, a Perth Bears fan who has become one of the biggest names in comedy, is set to bring his latest tour back to Sin City on the eve of the season-opening double header at Allegiant Stadium.

He won’t be the only international megastar enlisted by the NRL as they look to take the season launch to another level - country music sensation Dylan Scott is set to perform at Fremont Street in the lead-up to the triple

The biggest star of the entire show, however, could yet be the meat pie.

This masthead can reveal that Allegiant Stadium has agreed to alter their food offerings for only the second time - the first was for a Pink concert - to give the locals a taste of Australia.

Meat pies, sausage rolls, Tim Tam brownies and lamb burgers will be for sale on game day as Las Vegas locals get a taste of Aussie cuisine.

The Super League sides and their English supporters haven’t been forgotten either - Allegiant Stadium has agreed to sell bangers and mash in a tip of their hat to Hull KR and Leeds.

“The NRL’s iconic Las Vegas experience will go to a new level in 2026, with the biggest and most immersive event week we’ve ever delivered,” NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said.

“We’ve raised the bar on the iconic experiences fans have come to love such as Fan Fest, Fan Hub, the Business of Sport Conference and the NRL Nines, while the addition of the Oz Fest trade fair promises to add a new dimension to what is an incredible week of connectivity between the US, Australia, the UK and the Pacific.

“On game day itself, US fans will get to experience the best of Australia and the UK on and off the field, with authentic meat pies, sausage rolls, lamb burgers and bangers and mash available for sale inside Allegiant Stadium for the first time ever.

“If you’re thinking of joining us — there’s still time.

“Believe me, there’s nothing like seeing elite level rugby league played under the bright lights of the sports and entertainment capital of the world.”

The third year of the Las Vegas launch is set to be the biggest yet as the NRL look to capitalise on the success of the opening two editions of the groundbreaking concept.

Las Vegas has quickly become one of the most anticipated events on the rugby league calendar and the addition of the Bulldogs and Dragons this year has ensured the NRL will maintain the momentum given the huge followings of the respective clubs.

It is understood Newcastle and North Queensland supporters have also come to the party and the NRL has ensured they have plenty to look forward to after organising a spate of activities in the lead-up to the games.

It all starts with tag clinics and matches involving local high school children on Wednesday afternoon (local time).

Later that day, they will open the fan hub and host a media launch at Resorts World.

The following day the Vegas 9s will return with teams from America, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. That night, the Fan Fest will be held at Fremont Street, where the award-winning Scott will perform.

On match eve, the NRL will host a trade fair at Resorts World as well as their annual Business of Sport Conference, to be headlined by Brisbane Olympic boss Andrew Liveris, the president of the 2032 Games.

Las Vegas Raiders president Sandra Douglas Morgan will also be among the speakers along with heavyweights of American broadcasting and business.

Later that night, Jefferies will showcase his ‘Son of a Carpenter’ show at The Venetian. Jefferies grew up a North Sydney fan - his favourite player was Bears legend Greg Florimo. At one point, as the Bears were jostling for a return to the NRL, Jefferies was mentioned as a potential investor in the mooted franchise.

NRL in talks to stage premiership matches in Japan and the Middle East following success of Las Vegas season launch
First it was Las Vegas, now the NRL is looking at new overseas markets after the Broncos fielded interest to play the World Club Challenge in Dubai

The NRL has hatched plans to play premiership games in Japan and the Middle East as the ARL Commission explores the biggest global expansion project in the code’s 118-year history.

ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys has revealed a historic fixture in Japan is on the agenda, while the NRL is in high-level talks to stage a premiership game in the Middle East as early as next season.

“This will open the door for us to look at rugby league worldwide, not just in Australia,” V’landys said on Saturday.
“We’re planning it at the moment.”

As revealed by this masthead on Tuesday, the Broncos held talks to play this year’s World Club Challenge in Dubai and could be one team to spearhead the NRL’s Middle-Eastern incursion from 2027.

In a landmark strategic plan to further increase the NRL’s brand as a world game, Code Sports can reveal:

* The NRL is looking to expand on its American footprint;
* Miami has emerged as another US market to capitalise on the NRL’s glamour premiership kick-off in Las Vegas;
* The NRL is considering taking a premiership fixture to England;
* The NRL is planning a third NRL game overseas in 2027, with a fourth potentially in 2028; and
* Cashed-up Middle Eastern delegates have made overtures to the NRL keen to road test rugby league in a region dominated by soccer.

In the wake of last year’s grand final, a report flagged the prospect of an NRL global round in multifaceted markets - but Japan was never mentioned as a target destination.

Preliminary dialogue with Middle-Eastern government officials was also never revealed, until now.

As the Bulldogs, Dragons, Knights and Cowboys prepare to leave next week for the third edition of Las Vegas, V’landys confirmed the NRL is eyeing more history by forging ties with the Land of the Rising Sun.

“We won’t send more teams to Vegas next year, but we will look at having opening-round games elsewhere,” V’landys said.
“The plan is for two teams to go to one location such as Japan, and two other teams will go to the Middle East.
“We are currently looking at Japan, the Middle East and England.

“We’re talking to a number of jurisdictions, so I don’t want to pre-empt which country we go to.

“But the Middle East has shown great interest. Japan is a fascinating market. You have to try something different and it’s all about marketing, if you do it properly the fans will come.

“There’s a lot of work to be done on this project, but the interest since we put it out there has been extraordinary.

“Our fans and clubs want to be part of NRL matches overseas … even Super League clubs want to be part of Vegas.”
Japan, boasting a population of 122 million, is already familiar with the NRL’s code rivals rugby union.

Japan has had a fully-fledged rugby competition since 2003, with former NSW Origin, Souths and Roosters star Craig Wing playing 11 Tests for the Cherry Blossoms from 2013-15.

More than 160 Australians have played rugby in Japan, including former NRL converts Wing, Will Chambers, Lote Tuqiri, Curtis Rona and Israel Folau.

Broncos premiership-winning centre Gehamat Shibasaki has Japanese blood and played with Green Rockets Tokatsu in 2022 before returning to the NRL.
V’landys declined to comment on specific Middle Eastern venues.

But as revealed by this masthead, the Broncos fielded an approach from United Arab Emirates government officials to play their WCC clash against Hull KR on Friday week in Dubai.

The Broncos were offered around $1.5 million to head to the Middle East - they were keen on the concept - but it ultimately collapsed due to Hull KR’s travel demands.

The NRL’s slick Vegas opening has proved a TV ratings bonanza and V’landys vowed to keep expanding rugby league’s international tentacles.
“We’re still a long way from our plans,” he said.

“In the long term, all successful sports have got to be global.

“You look at the NFL, they are going overseas. You look at basketball, the NBA has gone global. The NFL is bringing a game to Australia so rugby league always has to aim high.
“We have to look at new markets and not rest on our laurels.

“You have to have ambition. The game is in the best place it’s ever been in its history. We have the most eyeballs we’ve ever had.
We are the most watched sport in Australia, but we won’t be complacent.
“We’re looking to start with one more country next year, and then go to another country the year after.

“We think the Australian fans would go to a country like that (Japan).

ARLC boss Peter V’landys revealed Miami is another US market for NRL matches.
ARLC boss Peter V’landys revealed Miami is another US market for NRL matches.
“It’s unbelievable what we have done with Vegas. I was happy to get 3000 or 4000 at the start but we are getting 15,000 Australians this year and 10,000 coming from England.

The NRL’s five-year Vegas deal at Allegiant Stadium expires at the end of 2028.

It is understood the Nevada government is keen to extend the agreement and V’landys confirmed the NRL is looking at other American markets.
“We’d like to extend our deal with Vegas, but we’re looking at other parts of America to go to,” he said.

“Vegas is definitely our preferred option and the Nevada government have been magnificent. They are a great partner and they want us to stay on longer than five years.

“But we’re not ruling out Miami either, that’s another location we will consider.
“All the teams indicate they want to go back to Vegas which is pleasing. We’re only into the third year, but after this year’s event, we’ll be in a better position to assess things.
“It (Vegas) is a major bucket list item … it promotes rugby league to the maximum and that’s what it’s all about.”

Other American cities being considered in addition to Japan and Middle East

Nevada govt keen to extend current arrangement. Good time for Pvl to leverage the success into more money from them

Again Pvl says only 25k tickets sold to English and Australian fans
Its forward thinking like this that UK Rugby League fans really want the NRL to take over the game over there to replace the incompetent Wood and his sidekick ASAP.

These opening round events if leveraged properly are a cash cow / promotion extravaganza for the NRL. May not have started out as such but boy is it a successful formula!
2028 season opener:
* Las Vegas
* Auckland
* Port Mosby
* Perth
* Dubai
* Sydney
* Brisbane
* Melbourne

8 cities, 5 countries!

Pools and teams for the Men's and Women's Premier divisions have been announced for the Vegas 9s.

Nice touch this year that the Grand Finals for both competitions will be played at Allegiant Stadium.

Women's competition will be round robin, then GF. In the Men's, the top 4 from each pool qualify for the knock-out finals.

I don't think these global games should be played in the same round. There's a reason why the NFL stagger it. It creates an complimentary event for now 9 weeks in 2026 to the usual slate of games, doesn't take away from any other international location which would want the limelight for that week and doesn't hobble the entire TV schedule either:

Perfect world that would be ideal, spread out more marquee games throughout the season, but it makes it pretty difficult with turnarounds and very difficult with getting fans to travel.

Does spreading it out make it any more difficult for fans to travel? It's not like Vegas is currently in an optimal travel window. Honestly the only deterrent I could see with spreading the games out is people might wait and see how their team starts the season before booking.

For some of the proposed markets (ie. London, Miami), fans are going to be less likely to go to them in late winter/early spring, than if they're in late spring/early summer.

Updated sales map. As mentioned in the Crowd Watch thread, we've discovered that the Vegas 9's social channels are selling tickets into some bays which are currently marked as unavailable to the general public (predominately 303, 304, 331, 332, 345, 346 & 347) as well some other sections of other bays on Level 3.

I've merged that sales map into the GP sales map for the 12Feb update, though I'm unsure whether the Vegas sales channel is just something that's recently been opened up or if it's been on sale for a while.

Anyway most encouraging thing is, in just a few days some significant chunks of seats have been moved and we're selling into more areas than we thought.
