The maps and your commentary were informative.

Just for comparison: Sydney to Gold Coast is roughly equal to Paris to Perpignan. The TGV goes that distance in 5-6 hours as I recall. Imagine if Australia had such a train service Sydney-Gold Coast-Brisbane, and Sydney-Canberra-Melbourne.

Look at the big national map, which is the final one, and see the location of the big cities (of which Perpignan is not one). Then you can see how a strategy of adding to Super League over time professional clubs first in Toulouse, then in Paris, then in Marseille and Lyon, and later Bordeaux, followed finally by Nantes and Lille, would if realised make rugby league a truly national game in France.

Thanks for doing all this, gives us a good idea about the country and where our sport is played.

Any chance of putting the places where the game is most popular and where it's the ruler as in top dog?

Thanks.

In the years 50s to 70s between 150 to 200 clubs (maximun) were registered in the books of the FFR.13 like members of the federation
At the present time it is between 75 and 95 clubs, the decrease began in 1990

Where is, at the present time, RL the most popular (fans) ?
very difficult to answer the FFR.13 having only between 75 and 95 clubs but i see 3 regions

- Region Midi-Pyrénées
...... dept 81 : around Albi .... (but poor attendance: less than an average of 600 spectators)

- Region Languedoc Roussillon
...... dept 11 : the triangle Carcassonne-Limoux-Lézignan
...... dept 66 : the triangle Salses-Perpignan-Elne

- Region Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur
...... dept 84 : the triangle Avignon-Carpentras-Cavaillon (but poor attendance: less than an average of 600 spectators)

--------------------------------------------------------------

A comparison
- FFR.13 with the French RU Federation (year 2007)
.... RU sub-regional league of Périgord-Agenais ( been dept 47 + 2/3 of dept 24 both located in the Aquitaine region) : it is between 67 and 73 clubs
.... RL clubs registered member in the FFR.13 : it is between 75 and 95 clubs
- with Soccer in the dept 47 (Aquitaine region)
.... clubs registered in the sub-regional league i.e. District-47 : between 50 and 60 clubs

I believe they do. It's called Countrylink.

In b4 calls for a team here or a team there.

Many people just don't appreciate the fact that many of the clubs are run on a shoestring budget (relatively speaking) and some teeter on the brink of collapse every year (Villeneuve, Elite 1, is broke and play in front of 200 people for example). The people running these clubs are also getting on in age...

League in France has hung on valiantly for so long, but it is in desperate need of new blood and dynamism.
