Was reading his autobiography and skipped a few pages ahead to c the pictures, and theres one of him in junior kiwis with the likes of ruebun wiki, and apparantely he played against stephen kearney and got sent off for elbowing him in the facial area,

That's just to name a few past/current All Blacks who started playing league but trned to union, mainly when they got to high school and found ot it was rugby or nothing. Happens all the time, and will continue to happen.
