7 State Of Origin Rugby League NSW V Qld 1st – Post Match Nine 1,321,000 684,000 *** 578,000 29,000 30,000

For comparison last year which was a record:
1 State Of Origin Rugby League NSW V Qld 1st – Match Nine 2,287,000 971,000 328,000 834,000 73,000 82,000

All the gain this year was from Sydney. Everywhere else was flat or down.

Surprising considering the lack of success NSW has had.

I was in the Melbourne Casino last night watching the game, and the sports bar was packed.

Over here in Perth Channel 9 did not show the game until 9:30pm western time. Foxtel had the game on at 8:30, I would imagine alot of people here in the West watched the Foxtel broadcast.

Some pubs also show the game live via satellite and whenever I have been they have been packed to he rafters

I reckon a lot more people in Sydney would have watched the game at home last night instead of going out to a pub like normal due to the horrible weather. I certainly did. TV ratings don't include those watching the game at pub venues which are normally packed.

Great to see good TV ratings, but these numbers are just made up. There's deadset 20 ratings boxes in Australia I reckon.

They calculate it to the thousand, looking at it, Perth and Adelaide 62,000 each. I'd wager that works out to 62 sampled viewers in each city, or maybe 128, maybe 32, and I'm real sure they're representative of the whole city. Factor in people watching at pubs and clubs and the like, the margin of error on SOO viewers would be at least 10's of thousands.

Its true. The boxes are a load BS. Unless they distribute like 100 000 australia wide then they mean jack to me

Why don't they quote the regional plus capital city figure in that NRL press release?

I know they mentioned the regional figures, but surely adding them to the capital city figures would look better.

They don't want to talk it up too much for some reason.

They better sell the State of Origin separately in the next TV Rights. TEN, Seven and Nine will all be in a massive bidding war for it.

i have never understood this either. people from these areas still watched the game, so should be included in the total amount of viewers nationally. there are millions of people in nsw who dont live in sydney, and id imagine qld as well. add to this rugby league being the number 1 sport in the act (are canberra viewers included) and a large rugby league folliwing in the northern territory.
