Is NRL GF on live in Melbourne?

Messages

Am finding it surprisingly hard to find out if the NRL GF will be shown on TV in Melbourne and if so, whether it will be live - does anyone know?

If so, where is the best place to watch, Crown?

Surely it should be on live but maybe thats all changed after the Storm's conduct this year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It should be live, then they will cut the coverage as soon as the FT siren sounds.

Pre-match (4.30pm) and main game (5.00pm) live on Nine and simulcast on Gem. Post game (7.00pm) live on Gem only.

Main game live head to head against SANFL Grand Final in Adelaide (we're going to get creamed) and Darwin (might be interesting).

How hard is it to look up any of the TV guide websites?

The answer is yes, it's live in Melbourne.
No disrespect, but all TV Guides (even on screen ones on some digital TV's) stated that the NRL finals would be live, only for 9 to change their minds on game day, sometimes even later that night.

After speaking with Nine they said that ninemsn is different to Channel 9, and the TV guide they have on the ninemsn website is not always accurate.

I'm fairly confident the GF will be live in melbourne, don't be surprised though if it's only Live on GEM.

Considering all we've got is the TV guide (by which I mean the Channel 9 guide, not the generic Ninemsn one), not sure what we're supposed to do then to answer the question. Guess?

If it's live on GEM then it legally must be live on 9. But 9 will cut the broadcast the second the final siren goes for National Nine News with Jo Hall. If the post match coverage continues on GEM this will be a massive insult to Melbourne fans who never got to see the Storm awarded their trophies (probably a good thing in retrospect but caused outrage at the time).

Ratings will be very poor in Melbourne as the whole city will be Grand Finalled out by Sunday having watched 2 AFL Grand Finals over the past 8 days.

If 9 was contractually allowed to do so, their Melbourne Schedule would be something like:

5.00 Home Cooked with Julie Goodwin
5.30 Postcards
6.00 News
6.30 Random Breath Testing
7.30 60 Minutes
8.30 The Mentallist Repeat
9.30 CSI Miami Repeat
10.30 NRL Grand Final

It should rate better than the prime time Swans in Sydney though. wouldn't be hard.

According to the guides they will cut the match straight when it finishes in Melbourne on Nine, but will continue the post match coverage on GEM.

Rumour mill - apparently execs from Foxtel have been in contact with the communications ministry about the anti-siphoning agreement - specifically about picking up the Southern States Friday & Sunday rights for next year.

The pressure is now on 9. So Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth league fans - relief might come 2 years early.

It used to be like that in SA. I remember after I moved to Adelaide getting told off by my girlfriend for not answering her phone calls at 1am because I was watching the NRL grand final.

WTF?!?!?! So GEM HD cut off the footy celebrations about 5 seconds after the final siren for Nine news, even though the coverage is scheduled to finish at 7.35pm and GEM doesn't normally simulcast Nine news!!! WHAT IS GOING ON? I understand Nine cutting it off as usual, but why did GEM 20 minutes before the program is scheduled to finish.

We've got straight from the final siren to a leading story on Collingwood. God Nine Melbourne are pitful, f**k off Eddie, not all of Melbourne is obsessed with your arrogrant footy club!

The pre-match entertainment was f**king dreadful. Makes you wonder why either the NRL or AFL bother at all. They can show us that but they can't show the only thing besides the game that matters; the presentation of the premiership trophy.

Exactly, I was under the impression that 9 was going to go straight to the news which im fine with, but that GEM was going to stay with the league (as the EPG says) but apparently they're happy to go against their own programming guide when it suits them. Sick of it.

Look at it this way. A hell of a lot more people in Melbourne would rather watch Collingwood premiership celebrations than St George-Illawarra premiership celebrations. 95% of Melbourne's population wouldn't even be able to name the two teams that were playing in the NRL Grand Final today.

Nine can't expect Melburnians to suddenly care about a NRL Grand Final between 2 Sydney teams after showing the whole season and the rest of finals series after midnight. Seven's 6pm news tonight will kill the GF in the ratings and Nine know it. That's why they ran banners on the screen for half the game saying the news will air directly after the game.

An ideal situation would've been if Nine was able to air all of its normal programming on the main network in Melbourne and air everything (Toyota Cup, pre match, game, presentations, post match all live on GEM)

and so it was still fine that GEM also cut off the footy?
