The only problem with that idea Dave is that it would put the club in breach as far as misleading advertising goes and what money you may make would go towards fines and possible action against the club and directors.
Nice sentiment though.
Just out of curiosity what does Souths Cares actually provide and what are there results, I read when it was first announced that it would create a thousand jobs what is the status of the charity as far as its original goals were set.
Souths Cares was established by Peter Holmes à Court and Russell Crowe in 2006, with David Peachey joining the team as Souths Cares Ambassador in 2007 and Nigel Vagana in 2009.
Souths Cares assists disadvantaged youth, and focuses on the South Sydney and Coffs Harbour communities.
We do this by drawing on the rich heritage of the Rabbitohs and engaging current players in the delivery of programs that promote the benefits of education and healthy lifestyles.
Souths Cares projects seek to increase the efficiency in delivery of services through partnership with established service providers, Government and the corporate sector.

2009 in Review

The players and staff at Souths Cares have proven that they really do care about their communities, contributing over 1600 hours to communities across Australia, targeting the South Sydney district and Coffs Harbour area.

Through Souths Cares, the charitable arm of the Club, staff and players have been involved in a number of initiatives based around the ethos of education, training and employment.

Souths Cares main programs are Teachers Aide, Workplace Mentoring, Social Awareness Campaigns and Corporate Partner relationships. These programs have involved players from both the NRL Squads and Toyota Cup for which both groups have contributed a total of 1610 hours.

At South Sydney, the players and staff have been delivering Healthy and Active Lifestyle, Numeracy and Literacy, as well as Aspiration building programs. They have also spoken at Careers Days about valuing education and making the most of opportunities. This has involved the players going out to Alexandria Park Community School, Green Square, La Perouse Primary and Matraville Sports High School throughout the 2009 season. They have also visited several schools in the Coffs Harbour Region.

Kelloggs have also come on board and supplied Souths Cares with cereal to begin a Breakfast Club at the above primary schools and Redfern PCYC. Souths Cares is currently working as a partner with Redfern Police on a program aimed at reducing crime in the area.

2010 will see these programs further develop to include Anti Bullying, One to One Mentoring and players will undergo further training as Teachers Aides which will provide them with Certificate III and IV qualifications. These may further articulate to tertiary study and assist the Club with the Player Development Program.

Souths Cares has also developed a number of relationships with training and employment companies. Some of the Rabbitohs NRL players have been attending aspiration building workshops and speaking to young jobseekers both indigenous and non indigenous about overcoming barriers to training and work. These messages include identifying support networks, finding appropriate role models, coping with peer pressure and valuing opportunities in the workplace. There have been a number of reports that illustrate the impact the players have had in this important area.

As the profile of Souths Cares has grown, Souths Cares has been approached by a number of agencies to use our people for social marketing campaigns to raise awareness, support and funding where appropriate. These have included:

* Chris Sandow for Oxfam and the Close the Gap campaign;

* Jamie Simpson for the Cure our Kids campaign;

* Beau Champion and Kane Cleal for the Westpac Helicopter Surf Lifesaving program;

* Nathan Merritt and Chris Sandow for the launch of SuperCuz, a campaign to inform Indigenous communities about the Legal Aid Service;
* Craig Wing ambassador for One Community as well as Down Syndrome;

* Toyota Cup Squad members raised $16K for Cancer Research by taking part in Dry in July;

* Members of the Toyota Cup Squad also took part in the Launch of Tackling Violence, an anti-domestic violence campaign. This was launched at Redfern Oval by the Hon. Linda Burney MP and Souths Cares ambassador David Peachey.

* Nigel Vagana and Kane Cleal took part in the July ARMtour organised by NASCA and visited remote communities in the Northern Territory delivering Healthy Lifestyle and Education programs.

Souths Cares has also been approached by:

* Aboriginal Medical Service to take part in a campaign to raise awareness for Indigenous health and alcohol education;

* Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council regarding a campaign targeting Gambling and the impact to Indigenous communities;

* South Sydney Area Health Service for an anti-smoking campaign targeting Indigenous communitys state wide.

As a result of these activities a number of our Corporate Partners have also become involved.

These include Virgin Blue, DeLonghi and NAB.

All have assisted Souths Cares in some way throughout the season to deliver our programs in the South Sydney and Coffs Harbour regions. We have been approached by many organisations and agencies not in our immediate areas seeking our involvement with their programs. These include:
* Western Sydney Housing and their Community Regeneration program;
* SWYPE an outreach program for disadvantaged youth in South Western Sydney;

to name just a few.

However the true success of Souths Cares programs comes down to the willingness of the staff and playing group who share the vision and give of themselves for their community, wherever that may be, tirelessly.

David Gallop recognised this contribution last year when he stated that: Souths has been a part of the community beyond 100 years of what players have achieved on the field.

Souths Cares is a shining beacon in our community.
