I had to get this off my shoulders, its been bugging me for weeks. Hope you are reading this Jarryd because I really feel you need a wake up call.
The Mayhem Of Jarryd Hayne - Is He A 6 Or A 1?
One of our biggest current issues is creating an attacking formation where all players instinctively fall into position without having to remember to do so, so that they do not interfere with Jarryd Hayne's time and space when he suddenly, instinctively, becomes the 6 on either side of the ruck, whenever it happens. What a pain in the ass this must be for some of our players!
As we saw last night, Robson and Casey were both crippling Jarryd with reduced time & space, and with other players, mainly forwards, providing clutter and very little clean fast ball for Jarryd to execute any of his many attacking skills.
Some of the forwards and backs were actually getting in the way leading to a cramping up of space where Jarryd was severely restricted from having time, space and freedom to execute his moves.
Compounding this problem is Jarryd with ball in hand generally has three defenders already coming at him no matter where he is on the park. So time, space & zero clutter is very important for Jarryd to perform within.
This all leads to a few issues, is Jarryd a 6 or 1?
Or is it the quality of the present 6 and 7 and a few of our forwards not having the right brain-power to create the correct environment, the right attacking formation, everytime, for Jarryd to step in and perform whenever he feels the pull of inspiration to do so in the moment.
To avoid accidents and mayhem, we created round-a-bouts , traffic cops and street lights to deal with major traffic issues so that everything can run smoothly IF EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE ROAD RULES. So how can our squad of 17 do what street lights, traffic cops and round-a-bouts do on a permanent basis if any of our players are not 100% switched on for 80 minutes. In this exhausting physically taxing game, players are regularly catching breath, are often dealing with niggling painful injuries that mess with ones concentration in any given moment. They have to contend with short game turnarounds of usually 5 days and there are other disruptions for our players brains to contend with like an opposing team out enthusing them as we witnessed last night.
After the last minute loss to Manly last Monday night all the players were very cranky about losing this game. So come last night, they were all prepared to make up for that loss with a win. They knew they had to deliver the standard of footy they had been presenting for the past month.
But what happens if things just don't work out as planned, as we saw last night????? Chaos, mayhem, disruption, disorganisation, shit plays, shit kick returns, charge downs, confusion, etc, etc. Basically a crap game that was really ugly to watch.
Is Jarryd a 6 or 1 not a recipe for disaster like the one we experienced last night?
How can we expect all our players brains to perform like clockwork, all synchronised with each other for 80 minutes, particularly to Jarryd's sudden in the moment burst of inspiration whenever it appears???
This is almost impossible to achieve week in week out for at least 7 months of a season not disregarding finals footy if we are ever good enough to get there.
How are we going to be a successful finals footy team while Jarryd is vacillating between being a 6 or a 1? This confusion that hangs like a dark cloud over the squad will not allow our team to win enough games to both get in the finals and be a serious threat for the championship. This is a fact.
The remedy to this problem is very simple, move Jarryd Hayne to 6 and there he stays for the rest of his career. This takes away a fair bit of pressure from all our forwards and backs having to accommodate Jarryd's genius, switching from 1 to 6, whenever it suddenly arrives in the moment.
We can't expect our team to win the tight games when our team is not on song as we saw last night. But, if Jarryd was our 6 all season, we stand a better chance of winning games like the ones we lost and drew over the past month. Eliminating the confusion of Jarryd switching from a 1 to 6 can only simplify our overall game plan and Jarryd's game as well, allowing for those precious moments, where instead of Jarryd and the team are having to switch attacking formations for the 30th time in a game, Jarryd is already putting a player through a hole to score or he has cut through or barged over to score.
These precious moments saved in comforting Jarryd's love for 1, becomes the attacking arsenal we need to win games when Jarryd is most needed. He is one of the best players in the world. I feel that once he becomes a permanent six he will become the best player in the world and be the next immortal rolling off the NRL production line, if not the greatest of them all
Wake up Jarryd and wake up coach, it's time to clear up all the mayhem and get on with winning games we should never have to lose if Jarryd was our permanent 6.
