The team nominations for the 2012 Inner City Combined Competition have been confirmed.

Once against the Canterbury-Bankstown District Junior Rugby League will be taking part in ICCC after a very successful 2011 season.

The advantages saw by the CBDJRL of taking part in the ICCC was to given a more level playing field to the older age groups of teams being able to compete at a more competitive level. As a result of this initiative by the CBDJRL more teams have increased in the older age groups.

The 15, 16 and 17 age group will be played between the Canterbury-Bankstown, Balmain, St George, South Sydney and Eastern Suburbs Districts.

The 19 age group will be played between the Canterbury-Bankstown, Balmain, St George, South Sydney, Eastern Suburbs and Western Suburbs Districts.

The A/Grade and A/Reserve open age groups will be played between the Canterbury-Bankstown, Balmain, St George and Western Suburbs Districts.

Teams with an * next to them are Canterbury-Bankstown based sides. It's never too late to join one of the CBDJRL sides.

Please note that the draw is subject to change and venue allocations and kick off times are pending to changes. Always check the ICCC website and the CBDJRL website for changes.

Thanks for the information MH. Looks like being a very interesting comp. I believe combined comps offer more variety that tends to get lost in district comps.
Looking fqrward to kick off tomorrow. Good luck to all.

The ICCC is the best thing to happen to Sydney RL in a long long time.
We were first involved last year and it was great, much closer games and I saw teams that hadn't won games in years finally win some and play against teams much better matched

The combined comp between Wests and Group 6 was a complete failure.

Anyway good luck to All saints and ESA.

Are the match results generally posted by Monday? Some results were posted by Sunday evening, which is great. Not essential of course, but good to see.
It was an enjoyable Sunday afternoon of footy. Good pies, All positive. Looking forward to rd 2.

This weekends ICCC matches have been Cancelled due to ground closures.

MH, were there many rounds lost last year due to weather? Are the councils involved reasonable with ground closures? Liverpool can be a little quick at times imo. I don't want to suggest closures are wrong, but gee, playing in the mud was alot of fun.

There were about 4 rounds off last year due to weather. Councils can seem to be precious with ground closures sometimes. It sucks when a round gets cancelled on a Thursday, then the next three days are sunny.

Grounds with poor drainage simply have to close. The damage caused due to playing on muddy grounds can render a ground unplayable for the rest of the season.

I think it has more to do with the lazy councils...particularly in the Balmain region whose park rangers don't work on week ends...Therefore it is easier to call it off on Thurs/Fri rather than get out of bed on Sat or Sunday morning

This seems to be a much larger comp all up than last year? Surely Western Suburbs should be able to get their act together and field a senior comp!

Why is that CCR ? What makes Wests any different to any other Jnr League participating in the ICCC ? Even with enough teams to form a comp, which they obviously don't have, the ICCC offers variety that is hard to match. Just my observation.

The West's comp although they have enough sides to form a comp is just too unevenly matched to have a fair and viable competition. The top 2 sides would probably beat the next 2 sides by 20 plus and the next 2 sides would probably put 40 plus on anybody thats left. Meaning 60 plus scorelines if the top 2 met any side out of that top 4. By joining the ICCC the top 2 play A grade the next 3 play A reserve 1 and the last 3 play A reserve 2 which means all sides are playing in a more competitive level for thier capabilities. A little dissapointed that A Reserves only play 35mins each way but so far it has been a good experience for most.

If the ICCC proves to be a long term success, should we see the end of district football in sydney metro at senior level alltogether to focus on providing more even/balanced competition across the metro area? Could this in turn then reverse the drop in senior numbers if players know they aren't going to come up against far superior opposition?

Hadn't thought of it that way, but It makes good sense. There would be a lot of guys just wanting a weekend run not wanting to come up against far bigger, stronger and better opponents. This certainly gives them that opportunity, and once they get the taste back they may want to step up again. But surely having the 3rd grade would meet that criteria.

I think you are right with participation numbers CCR. Teams in district comps fold when they find they are not competetive. Generally no options. The bigger the pool of teams the more oportunity for balanced comps. Thats where your line of thought works as well Footy59. You could have a high quality 1st grade down to 4th or 5th grade in open age comps. There are options with team numbers. Nobody loses boundries or junior teams. A balmain team remains a Balmain team etc.
I think viable district comps will remain but the ICCC blue print offers options to struggling district comps and strengthens senior footy in Sydney metro. There are comps with 5 teams being played, and that's their choice. If they are happy that's great. But who knows, they may look for something more interesting later.
I'm enjoying the ICCC and I'd like to see it grow.
