His bowling looked more promising than his keeping.

And plus Hughesy looked good with the gloves on.

I'm all for this move.

Wade bowls now too so we can't give him the gloves either:roll:

I used to have a coach who would say that bowling was something everyone had to do, just like batting (not necessarily in actual games but we all had to do it)

Why do we have to rest our youngest, fittest bowler, if these geniuss can't string together more than 2 tests in a row their fragile little bodies shouldn't be playing sport.

didn't Starc just win us a test match ?

so what do we do, we drop him

that'll do me

there is no evidence that the rotation system works and we are the only country that do it and we have more injured players than any other country

what a joke

This. Never agreed with anything you've said more than this. There is zero evidence it works.

Just when a bloke is getting momentum in his career he's dropped for the biggest test of our domestic summer.

Rotation doesn't work. We're rotating and the injury rate is worse than ever. The injuries are a mixture of bad luck and playing too much T20 rubbish.

If anything the rotation policy probably makes injuries more likely, as plenty of people have said, the secret to not getting these niggling injuries is playing cricket.. constantly.. (Especially 4 / 5 day cricket)

Always had a gut feeling they would rotate Starc out of the side for Johnson, could see it coming a mile off particularly when johnson was put as 12th man in hobart.

I tell you what If Johnson does FA in this MCG test, Im gonna check-in into a mental institution, cause im gonna go absolutely bonkers. Then again probably will get a match 10 wicket haul and blaze a ton, to be assured selection against tougher sides coming up

Jackson Bird's shock debut at expense of Mitchell Starc highlights pacemen no longer play series
By Malcolm Conn
December 22

Welcome to the future, where rotation becomes reality.
How big the block is depends on their age, injury history and workload.

After bowling almost 100 overs in the past two Tests, data from Australia's support staff highlights that Starc is at serious risk of breaking down if he continues playing.

That he is just 22 and has only six Tests to his credit reinforces that view, meaning he will play just one of the next two Tests.
It will be devastating for Starc missing the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the biggest day on the cricketing calendar.

But it would be more devastating for him and his teammates if Starc broke down during the match and missed playing his first home Test in Sydney early in the new year, and the remainder of the season.
A significant injury now means he would struggle to prove his fitness for the Indian tour from mid-February and fall back in the queue for the Ashes mid-year.
This is not the first time Australia will use the often talked about rotation policy but it will be the most contentious after Starc claimed 14 wickets in the past two Tests, including a match-winning 5-63 on the last day in Hobart.
During Australia's tour of West Indies in April Ryan Harris, who has a long injury history, was man of the match in Barbados but was rested from the second Test in Trindad before returning for the third.
While there were understandable fears about Harris breaking down, the irony was that Peter Siddle and James Pattinson both broke down in the only Test they played and were sent home.
Pattinson, who has broken down four times this year, is currently out with a side strain suffered during the second Test against South Africa in Adelaide.
There is considerable angst that he is missing yet again, with Cricket Australia's high performance manager, Pat Howard, saying this week that he will be more closely monitored in future.
Last season the sports science data showed that Pattinson was in danger of breaking down in the Sydney Test, and did, but he had made such a big impact in Melbourne it was considered worth the risk.
Things have clearly changed. Starc will not be risked.

There's a poll too
Do Australa's fast bowlers need to toughen up?
Yes, this resting is ridiculous
77.88%
No, science is the safe way
22.12%
I copy pasted that, so yes, they did misspell Australia

The rotation policy is the tool of the devil.....

No other country in the world has a rotation system and they seem to be doing fine regarding injuries. How are blokes supposed run up any amount of form if they're rested every 2 or 3 tests? Starc will probably be released to go and play in the big beat off anyway

Mitchell Johnson coming in for a bloke who just won us a Test match fmd
