i don't give a f**k what any of you merkins say, morts was one of our top 5 players in 09
Damn straight!
Morts was a very handy player for the eels in 09 and topped tackle counts but was the smallest on the field.

He was always going to be hard to hold on to regardless of the fact he signed a contract with us...playing reggies because of SK and the teams' poor form.

As others have said, he relied on a confident and strong forward pack which we haven't had since.

He would have been a fantastic utility off the bench as many realised but it was only a matta of time before the opposing teams offered him slightly more and a promise of 1st grade.

One of SK's biggest mistakes imo.

Ando gets shit for saying he didn't know how the team suddenly played so well. The thing is no one knows.

Wayne Bennett said that's how confidence goes. When it arrives nobody knows where it came from, and when it leaves nobody knows why.

You're kidding. We had to beg the Chooks to take him, and pay part of his salary to get rid of him.

He's now one of the cheap, ordinary utility players in their roster that allows them to spend so much on stars.

Like all kids, it takes time, and games under the belt.

Morts, would be a good foil to many.

Never a huge star.

And he could have been a good utility in our roster. As that's what he is. He's playing very well at the Roosters. Both Mortimer and Robson would have been much better than any of the half/hooker/utility players we have now. Cheaper too. Sandow and Roberts are jokes. Keating has always been average. Paulo should be a backrower and Kelly was thrown in the deep end and sank.

Sandow is a star of our game. How did Mortimer or Robson go behind our pack? Very f**king ordinary - they weren't half as good combined as Chris Sandow has been for us since he arrived.

Morts might have been a good utility player for us but we lost him due to overpaying the greedy little merkin the first time. We had to get him off our books, the Roosters obliged, and so they got first rights to re-sign him after he realised that half a season of good form didn't make him a star.

Robson is still ordinary. Supposedly playing 'halfback' even though he plays on the left side and gets just over half the touches of his 'five-eighth'.

Grothe gets a few more points for his great performance in the GF. Other than that he was back to his form that saw him in the top few wingers in the world. And even that doesn't come close to what form other members of the team were in.
I know the above is an old post, but Grothe Jnr was never, ever, among the top few wingers in the world.

A simple grubber kick behind the guy was a try every time, had the turning circle of a Mack truck - not to mention the "issues" that led to his regular withdrawal from any rep matches.

Muppet... or should that be "puppet"?

Would be ironic if Brailey cops a season ending injury and the Sharks end up short in the '9' for the rest of the year. Not that I wish injury on any player.

Maybe the Sharks (like Penruff appear to) have some salary cap issues they need to fix before June 30.

Mort's move to ESL was announced on Sunday, not sure the game on Saturday night helped secure the deal that quickly, so it was probably already a done deal.

Sure Seggy would be due back, but the article I read has Brailey, Seggy and Brailey's brother (who is in NYC) as the strength the Sharks have in the "9" role. Lose one of the first 2 and they aren't that strong in that position anymore.

Haven't seen anything official that Mortimer has been released or signed with Leigh. Still only rumours it appears.
