Potential Batsmen?

Lynn looks more suited to shorter forms. His technique is pretty loose. He could develop but who knows. Burns has a very similar technique to Watson. Gets out LBW a bit but that is fixable if you have a brain. Impressed with Silk so far. Bats long periods which is just what we need. Maddinson is a goer and could still be a good one.

Is Hodge still around?

Wasn't that long ago they pissed him off after getting a double ton and being too slow.

This is a bit of a long shot but that Sam Robson fellow is eligible for Australia I believe and he's the second highest run scorer in English fc cricket. He becomes eligible for England next year.

Edit

In interviews he seems pretty cagey. We could do worse than selecting him and forcing his hand.

I've been talking up Robson for years on here.

I think he's actually declared for England though after three successive years of scoring the house down in Sydney grade and not one state side so much as giving him a look in.

He's a proper - dare I say it - English opening batsman.

I see Phil Jacques is still over there getting runs for Yorkshire. I seem to remember the selectors decided his test average of 47 wasn't good enough and HAH was a better prospect  That's about when it all started going pear shaped for us.

I'm surprised that Jacques was deposed so quickly yet Hughes has been persevered with for so long.

Jacques certainly wasn't a worse batsmen/

i c wot u did there :sarcasm:

so yeh amongst the discards:

Jacques
katich
Hodge
North &

Clarke
Smith

Can't tell me thats not a better lineup than we have now.

Phil Jacques is a really hard luck story of Australian cricket.

11 tests , 980 runs @ 47.47 with 3 tons and 6 fifties.

If his back didnt go he'd still be there now.

So he wasnt totally discarded , but he should have been given another look at test cricket.

Edit: I notice he just scored a ton the other day for yorkshire. If we can recall rogers , why not jacques ?!

I think Jaques is no longer eligible. He's playing in the UK as a local player and is technically England eligible.

They took a chance with Agar, why is Silk different? McGrath played f**k all before a test.

Be different if we were going well, but we are not, give kids a chance. Have tried experienced, Rogers, Cowen. Tried some youth, Hughes, Warner, Khawaja.

Clarke is the only world class batsmen at this stage, we must persist with the youth, and try others, Silk, Maddison...someone. I could handle the idea of giving Rogers a go, but now 2-0 down, FFS sorry mate need to plan for the future.

Agar may need a rest as long as knows he will a get a gig again.

Also if Wade is the future, he should play in front of Haddin.

It sux that we are losing, but it sux more that we do not help ourselves.

oh and f**k Watson, give Faulkner his spot.

C Rogers - 33 - 59 - 4 - 2382 - 149 - 43.31 - 8 - 8
A McDonald - 24 - 39 - 9 - 1299 - 163 - 43.30 - 5 - 3
D Hussey - 30 - 53 - 3 - 2165 - 174 - 43.30 - 6 - 10
M Cosgrove - 38 - 64 - 7 - 2448 - 159 - 42.95 - 5 - 14
J Hopes - 15 - 26 - 1 - 1060 - 92 - 42.40 - 0 - 9
S Katich - 14 - 21 - 2 - 799 - 125 - 42.05 - 3 - 3
C Borgas - 8 - 14 - 2 - 504 - 164* - 42.00 - 1 - 2
A Voges - 33 - 62 - 10 - 2160 - 178 - 41.54 - 4 - 11
R Quiney - 33 - 60 - 4 - 2260 - 153 - 40.36 - 6 - 12
J Burns - 24 - 43 - 2 - 1649 - 140* - 40.22 - 5 - 7
M Henriques - 16 - 27 - 6 - 843 - 161* - 40.14 - 1 - 6

Going off the stats:

- Hughes, Khawaja and Smith deserve their spots. All have scored at least 5 centuries over the past 4 seasons, have had at least one good innings each this current Ashes series, and have age on their side
- don't buy into the inflated averages of Borgas, Hopes, Cooper, Maxwell and Warner; they have only scored one century in Sheffield Shield and do not exactly have penchants for big innings
- Cowan, Quiney, Rogers and McDonald have all had good enough form to warrant selection, but their limitations have been exposed at the top level AND do not have age on their side
- Silk, Burns, Maddinson and Lynn are all talented but maybe not ready JUST yet; although the selectors might as well go with them if they are willing to discard Lyon for the largely untested Agar

Hughes
Marsh
Khawaja
Smith
Clarke
Watson
Wade (I do not necessarily mind Haddin however)

Henriques should be the reserve allrounder, with Cosgrove and Voges the next batsmen in line.
