Opinion Is Ricky Stuart the most overrated coach ever?

The fact that he made 3 grand finals in a row notwithstanding, he only won one of those, in his debut year. That was 2002. Ever since then, he has tread water in a pool of shit, hopping from one responsibility to the next, whether it be club or representative level, and failing at every single one. And don't bring up his stint as the Kangaroos coach, that was all the unified skill of the players.

Why is it then, that these talent bankrupt clubs (Cronulla 2007-2010, Parramatta 2013, Canberra 2014) put so much stock in those first 3 years of his career? That is ancient history by today's standards. His name always manages to find its way into the headlines, whether be over one of his signature whinges or something else, while actual amazing coaches like Hasler, Bennett and Bellamy with a proven pedigree get on with the job without making a big song and dance in the press over every little thing.

The only other challenger I could think of for the most overrated coach of the modern era would be Tim Sheens. Coaches who have had more than their fair share of chances, come up naught and continue to get them.

Bellamy has a proven pedigree? Last time I checked he has won the same amount of premierships as Stuart as a coach. Let's add to that his multiple Origin failures, he's no more proven than Stuart.

I agree with everything else though.

For the record his start at the raiders has been positive. Obviously milford is a big loss but that's difficult to blame Stuart for. Milford wants to live with his parents but keeping Lee (times two) and Wighton are a good start. Wighton especially as he was clearly pretty down on the joint a few weeks ago.

His salary cap breaches, I can't argue with that point, but his ability to develop star players can't be denied. It's not just premierships that make a coach.

How many star players can Sticky hope to claim responsibility for?

As I've said before, I can see some short term success at the raiders.

Things will fall apart though. There is even more pressure for Stuart at the raiders than his past clubs.

Not only is he the most overrated coach but also the worst in the history of the game. His Playing ability spoke for itself as well... Shit

I love Ricky, purely for the fact he gets under QLD'ers skin so easily by doing SFA.

Keep up the great work sticky.

I don't mind Stuart as a coach or as a person. Hardly blame him for Milford leaving, parramatta taking a dive or for nsw losing state of origin series over and over again. Does he upset this qlder? Not one iota.
