New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Warriors admin has gotten pretty solid last few years but you’re right in that it has had a series of poor admins. Also correct that a good set up in CHCH could be successful but looking at the 2 bids the both have drivers of poor Warriors results involved

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

One of the big challenges with NZ2 and well even the Warriors is that the local standard of league is pretty amateur compared to those you will see in Australian systems. The NZRL runs on the smell of an oily rag and doesn’t have the best record when it comes to making sound choices and has a...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Lot of claims and assumptions from Aus posters on here that have a few inaccuracies that will naturally be challenged by NZ posters- be that living there currently or expats, particularly if they are agenda loaded. I’ve been in Sydney for the last decade but before that grew up and have lived...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

If NZ2 pops up it’ll be Hamilton and Wellington that get the majority of the attention. Yarrow Stadium has hosted an NRL game in 2016 for Isaac Luke but it’s not the best to visit. I’m surprised you mentioned it considering your feelings about curved seating (those concrete stand sections are...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The whole interview is very good- did find it telling the long pause after being asked if he regretted going to the Warriors. Also found it telling that he didn’t rate Stacy Jones that highly and implied he needs to be gone from the club.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Its not really in the NRLs best interest to kill off Union in NZ, currently the players born in NZ get a large chunk of their development from the NZ Union systems and comps- take that away without a viable replacement and they kill their golden goose. As it presently stands the NZRL systems and...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I’d suspect we’d hitch our ride to Japan. Align our season so our players can cash in there, play NPC as usual, then have the current NZ Super Rugby sides as sort of a rep season with teams actually drawing on players from their aligned provinces only, play each other once or home/away after the...

    NZ 2 .. 360 million dollar bid

Not really it’s just 2 languages for the same place. You do get a few people that take exception to NZ being called anything but NZ but common place for it to be called ‘Aotearoa New Zealand’- ironically Aotearoa is more common in the north. Would be odd to have both names really, would prefer...

    NZ 2 .. 360 million dollar bid

Would be ironic if ‘Aotearoa’ were the southern team, originally the term ‘Aotearoa’ referred to the North Island only

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Unless it’s changed recently, FTA games used to be delayed signify rather than live. Without Sky it Made a tough day of work on Monday when the Sunday games were played on Prime (now sky open) at close to midnight.

Curious what his thoughts of the NZRL is in comparison…

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Yeah but Perth ;) they’re just excited to be noticed. Other states it was sketchy- made the mistake of getting into a coffee convo with a Melbournian and full rant ensued

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The whole sport went professional not because of the Warriors. High profile All Blacks players were talking of leaving to join a rebel professional union comp (similar to say superleague) which was more of a catalyst. Which goes back to the original question- League in this part of the world...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Odd analogy- didn’t Starbucks essentially fail in Australia because locals liked their local product better and rejected the foreign invader?

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The lack of options is a blessing and a curse, I need Kayo, Stan and Paramount to get what I could see on sky alone in NZ. If NRL were confident enough in their product going it alone they could always not sell to sky and use a subscription service like watch NRL

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

No doubt ratings will rise with NZ2 but you also have to remember a large majority of NZ2 fans are currently supporting the Warriors as the default NZ team, not sure it will double the fans

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

100%, if it were simply money why hasn’t it happened in greater numbers already? Also why didn’t it happen when Union was amateur and league professional?
