    The Las Vegas Thread

So the poms play at 1pm Vegas time, then everyone hangs around for four hours until the NRL starts at 6.30pm?

    18th club, whose next?

Yes they have. I am not saying the Suns are going well either. The game should be expecting more from the Titans than simply being in front of the Suns. I take your point - I had a look at the U15s when I posted and AFL was ahead, but looking again I see that the AFL only have u11s/U13s/U15s...

    18th club, whose next?

Actually, since the Suns started, their average crowds on the GC has been marginally higher than Titans (13.5k v 13.4K). I think you mentioned Auskick because you don’t have any actual evidence that the Titans are smashing the Suns and you are implying that Auskick should not count as...

    18th club, whose next?

GC crowds are similar (14.5k v 13.8k). How did you find GC TV ratings? Why mention Auskick?

    18th club, whose next?

In what ways are they winning the battle? What has changed over the past 15 years in relation to NRL v AFL. I would say both Titans and Suns have been equally disappointing on and off the paddock. Participation has grown for both codes but isn’t that just a reflection of GC changing demographics?

    PNG's back.

Good discussion on Offsiders with Ryan Hoffman about PNG. He said the main concern for players and officials moving there would be living conditions. He rasied the security concerns but added that living in a compound where you ‘can’t go down the shops’ would not be ideal either. Lots of work...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Suncorp would get more fans to five NRL games than the one Matildas game and four others they will host.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

How is it a good thing for NRL if Suncorp, ACCOR and one of Parra or SFS have no games for six weeks? No soccer in Melbourne is a win for Storm.

    18th club, whose next?

Albo will divert funds to wherever it will win him the next election, not because he prefers NRL (or AFL - he follows both but is an NRL man). Similarly any PNG funding is driven by a fear of China, and nothing else.

    18th club, whose next?

Actually much of the Swans support in Melbourne is from people relocating from Sydney (or their kids a generation later). Not sure there are many South Melbourne fans left. I was at primary school in the 1980s and most South Melbourne supporters I knew switched to other Vic based teams. Storm...

    18th club, whose next?

Perth is still going to have to hook up with some NSW or Qld club for players pathways and development, the same as Storm does. So it might as well be the Bears. It won’t make any difference to the people of Perth whether they get 11 home games or 12. Take the Bears players and any money...

    18th club, whose next?

According the the AAP article, the majority of clubs are against PNG. Do they get a say or can PVL Do whatever he wants?

John Grant urges NRL to add a team in Ipswich/Logan

Sure, 30k isn’t a lot but where do those that go to games come from? Do they come from the inner city like in Sydney or from the ‘burbs?

John Grant urges NRL to add a team in Ipswich/Logan

Is Brisbane similar to Sydney in that the AFL fans are concentrated in the inner city? Swans are mainly popular in the areas that used to be RU territory. Where do Lions fans live? I would have thought anywhere but the ‘western corridor‘.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Sure, they are going to put a swimming pool at Suncorp in the middle of the NRL season. I guess they can just put it on top of the grass? I know my grass always look terrific underneath where I have my temporary backyard pool. Interesting to know your thoughts on how this may work. Tell us more.

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

So, current state of the supposed ‘Code War’ between NRL and AFL is that both of those sports are well up on where they were ten years ago (particularly crowds and revenue), and both RU and soccer have been killed off as spectator sports. AFL and NRL crowds are up roughly by the same amount...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

Rebels fate to be decided tomorrow. According to this article the MCG expects to host the RWC final, but that is conditional on the Rebels not being liquidated. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/rugby-union/sports-minister-raised-world-cup-final-in-phone-call-to-rugby-boss-20240501-p5fo1l.html

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Need to remember who pays the bills - the broadcasters. And what they want is full stadiums so games look good on TV. So the answer is not bigger stadiums, but more comfortable stadiums with better amenities, in convenient locations. And with decent hospitality spaces so clubs can also make some...
