    18th club, whose next?

I like the idea of the Perth Bears. Perth can have some of the pathways from the north shore, while the old Bears get the logo and colours back in the big time. For a new club in a non heartland area, it makes sense, otherwise where are they going to get the players from? Penrith? I disagree...

    June 2 D-day

Perth should be team 18 for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the NRL will be negotiating the next tv deal pretty soon., where Perth could come in either 2027 or 2028. Having a team in a new metro market could help drive up the value during discussions with Nine, Fox, Ten whoever. Secondly, PNG...

    PNG's back.

Or a 22 team competition. Prematurely there were 22 teams across two competitions back in '97. So the next five teams: *PNG *Perth *NZ 2 *Brisbane 3 * Adelaide In a 24 round league, you only play against three teams on two occasions.

    PNG's back.

So the NRL's long term view is to have a 20 team comp. If PNG and Perth are 18 and 19, then one of NZ 2 or Brisbane 3 would miss out.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Highly unlikely Canberra Raiders will relocate. Eventually the Raiders and the Brumbies will have a new stadium. Over in NZ, back in 2011, Christchurch suffered an earthquake. It damaged the stadium of the Canterbury Crusaders. Since then the Crusaders have played at a temporary stadium. In a...

    2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

Ten have themselves to blame. Last year, Optus Sport had the rights to the Womens football world cup. They sold 15 of the 64 matches to Seven at around $4-$5 million. With Matildas going deep in the event, it ended up been a huge ratings success for Seven. Hypocritically if Ten had the rights...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Whether it's wet or dry, with only 13k capacity, maybe Cronulla should've moved the game against the Dragons to Allianz.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Interesting point targeting 4 metros in the one timeslot. Down the track, there might be Brisbane v Storm or Souths (Sydney team) v Perth played simultaneously. Unfortunately there is only one team in Melbourne and possibly in the future one team in Perth. Storm and Perth would have to...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Five days of games could be overkill. It may work for the first month of the season with the heat and daylight savings though. A wet Monday night in the middle of winter wouldn't be appealing to attend a game. Also it may come down on who gets the rights. If Ten/ Fox or Ten/Paramount somehow...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Bringing in another Kiwi team might fix Friday 6pm, but the comp will go to 18 teams and where does the ninth timeslot go in scheduling?

    2024 Crowd Watch

10k at Brookie is not bad with wet weather and a terrible timeslot. I can understand the Thursday night game for tv purposes, but Friday 6pm is an awful time for a first grade game to kick off. People are still coming home from work.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

The western/ broadcast side of HBF does look small, outdated and ugly. On the southern end, it does have potential, especially if it is installed with a roof. Like I said before, for a regional ground and only hosting six games a year, Win is doing ok.

You are hanging your hat on one grandstand. And Win Stadium doesn't have good views?

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Maybe I'm biased, but Win edges out HBF Park. Yes, Win has a hill, but it also possesses three grandstands. With HBF Park, If you take out the eastern grandstand, there's not much to talk about with the remaining sides of the ground. Plus Win is situated in a regional area, while HBF Park is...

    South Sydney Rabbitohs issues

Souths were "putting in" somewhat in the first couple of games against Manly in Vegas and away to Brisbane, but lost both. Certainly respectable on the scoreboard anyway, but starting the season with back to back losses is far from ideal. Plus Souths did collapse in the second half of last...

    South Sydney Rabbitohs issues

Additionally Souths have had a tough draw to begin the season. The one "easy" game was against Canterbury which they won. But Souths have lost against Manly, Brisbane, Roosters, Warriors, Cronulla, Melbourne and Penrith. Souths were opposed to six teams from last years top 8.
