    The international rules sides were picked for the specific game most of the time, or the players werent made available through injury or club politics. International rules sides arent exactly the same as an AFL lineup

    Well sort of. Interest in rugby league was thought to be higher in general. In 1933 it was all about preservation of the game going forward

    You can believe what you want to believe. Others have given similar examples of all league teams. Its not exactly a rare thing. All players make that team based on merit. That they dont play anyone doesnt change that.

    its most certainly a merit based all australian team. Is it pathetic that they dont play anyone at their own sport? maybe, but those are the breaks when you play a sport limited in professional geographic coverage to its country of origin.

    The tide looks positive sure, but turning? The ARLC have a big tv deal to match, and hundreds of millions in revenue to catch up. They are a long way from "turning", and all of you assume that everyone else is going to sit there and let the NRL just waltz past them, this at least i can agree...

    Other than the tv ratings surveys, there is literally no other measure this has happened. The AFL makes more money, has double the attendance , gets more for its media rights, And his have largely come from others. geographically, sure. Say it with me, long term project. generational even...
