    Pre Season

Exactly my thoughts too. I don’t care about the flashy marketing, as entertaining as it might be.

Scott McRae - Not Wanted For 2020

Totally agree. Love the guy. Best ground announcer in the NRL (and have seen a few at different games). He also appeals to the whole crowd. Can’t understand why we would sack him.

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

I have the same question. And not just a wild rumour, something with even a spec of evidence to support it.

    2020 season

No pre-season for JFH now. He will be lucky to be fit for round 1 :disappointed::disappointed:

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

Thanks for sharing. If that all turns out to be true we are in for a miserable season next year. We will have one of the least experienced spines in the comp, a backline without any real strike power, and a bench of players with hardly any FG experience. And we will be carrying a $200k salary...

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

The injury Bird suffered isn't just any old injury. It was an ACL rupture. For some players that's basically a career killer. Even if he comes back he might not be the same. It would be a massive gamble to sign him unless he was super cheap.

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

I don’t know if it was an “unusual” amount but the majority of his try assists were definitely outside the opposition 20m. That’s also consistent with the fact his tries weren’t coming off kicks. Other players who are getting a lot of try assists inside the opposition 20m are generally...

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

I am not disputing that he can set up tries. I am disputing where those tries are set up and pointing out the one dimensional nature of his attacking skills. I absolutely disagree that he was ever lethal in the opposition 20 m. That’s rewriting history. What he was great at doing was creating...

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

I’d also be happy to have Grant for another year. I think he also earned it after retiring during the season to allow To’o (or maybe it was Kenny) to come into our top 30.

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

Which part isn’t true? It is true that he was a touch football player and his skills developed from that form of football. As to his attacking ability in the opposition 20m, if you go back through this forum you will find plenty of commentary about us being unable to score within the...

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

We’d be mad to bring Moylan back. I think we are also forgetting that our attack was just as bad in the opposition red zone when Moylan was here as when he left. Moylan learned his skills from touch football and basically his one attacking weapon is timing passes to put players into gaps...

    Round 25 V Newcastle

I went to the game yesterday and was glad I did. Despite where we finished on the ladder it is impossible not to enjoy us thrashing an opposition team, and Cleary setting an individual record. The game blew out in the last 20 but was actually fairly close before then. We can’t get carried away...

    Reserve Grade discussion.

Can’t a lot of it be linked back to strength and conditioning? Presumably the same staff coach strength and conditioning across all three grades? Remember what Hook said when he got here? Everyone was fat and unfit. History repeats.

    2020 season

Completely agree with this. The level we reached when we beat Saints last year was a level we have not come close to this year. We didn’t just beat the Saints, we physically dominated them into the ground. We had incredible line speed and our pack played with aggression and ferocity. I was at...

Rumoured and Confirmed signings - Part 4

    That sounds much more believable

    2020 season

The only cause for optimism is that a better dummy half with consistently better service might give Cleary more time to make decisions in attack, which might make a difference. We can only hope anyway.

That’s also what happens when you don’t score many tries full stop.

    Ivan Cleary ..

We also now know that, whatever the result next week, the Tigers will finish above us on the ladder.

    Round 24 v Roosters

I don’t think anyone ever accused Merrin of not being fit. He was a “fit fat dude” and could play 80 mins.

    Round 24 v Roosters

We desperately need to do something about our cardio fitness for next year. RCG has gone from being tall and lean under Griffin to having a gut. Having regard to the rest of his build he looks like a “skinny fat dude”. How that can happen I have no idea. Unless something changes Api will come...
