    2025 Crowd Watch

When you add on finals revenue from game days, the AFL made 20% more from crowds than TV. No reason why NRL can’t do the same. Crowds is where the money is. To rely on broadcast revenue is lazy.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

The AFL is contributing $4.5m to Henson Park. The helps get things moving. The NRL needs to decide what the end game (say, 2035) is for Sydney NRL stadia, and work backwards from there.

    WA BEARS

The Hobart stadium is about to be resolved - it has bypartisan support and will be pushed though parliament in a couple of months. On track for 2028. Similarly, the NRL has leverage until contracts are signed, After that, it will be much harder to get anything done. Especially if WA has a...

    WA BEARS

Excellent news. PVL finally putting the National in NRL. First game will sellout Optus. They will average 20k the first season.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That would be $400m, not $40m. Best to do nothing and wait for the full rebuild.

Looks like minimal corporate. How will they make enough money playing here?

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

30k is for concerts, with patrons on the grass. Not sure what acts would play Penrith, but that’s the theory.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Seems the obvious solution. Raiders can keep playing there. Stage 1 - new SE stand fully covered, new sheds 10k $150m Stage 2 - new NW stand 10k $150m Stage 3/4 - bring the ends in 10m. 5k $50m each.

Just making sure a record round happens.

    2025 Crowd Watch

The AFL let Storm play at their own stadium multiple times last year - they could really have stuffed the NRL around of they wanted to. They would not be worried in the slightest about Storm playing at the MCG, nor would they have much influence over the MCG. Cricket will push the AFL season...

    2025 Crowd Watch

Yes, I am sure that they resurfaced the ground last week just so they could use it as an excuse not to host Storm next season.

    2025 Crowd Watch

MCG CEO said today that there in no room for a Storm game @ MCG. Said they use Gather Round to replace the turf and that their event calendar is full, and that they would only consider squeezing in other events that were like to fill the stadium.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

A 90k stadium will cost $5B. Construction costs increase as the capacity increases - the extra 20k capacity on top of say, 70k costs more than going from 50k to 70k. To play 20 NRL games there plus concerts and one of two other events per year is simply not feasible. It must have a 30k and a 60k...

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

No multi-purpose stadiums anywhere again. Ever. Auckland might get away with it because they don’t have AFL and because their design considers that Rugby draws bigger crowds than cricket, but in every Australian city besides Brisbane the oval sport users draw bigger than rectangular sports, so...

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Just did a google search and I might have been a little high. I know people here working at clubs (staff not including players - Storm 151, Hawthorn 250, Collingwood 288) and assumed that NRL clubs would be the similar. Some are, some are not: Sharks 128 Panthers 213 West 136 Manly 137 Souths...

    2025 Crowd Watch

West Coast played at the same time 1.20 - 4pm (Sydney time). Dockers play today. Those times made no sense. Excellent crowd nevertheless. Will be in the top 10 non-Suncorp crowds for the season.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Governments and LGAs pay for a lot of the training centres. Having 40 highly paid players training, plus another 200 - 250 staff working in the area is good business.

What exactly is the AFL doing in Western Brisbane that needed combatting?

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

General support in Melbourne all AFL clubs would still be twice as big as Storm. I.e. for a Preliminary Final even NM would draw 70k+ V a non Vic club. They won’t pass NM in crowds, especially playing in a 29k stadium. NM revenue last year was $15m more than Storm.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

    5 x AO (50k). 2 x Norwood (10k). 2 x Barossa (10k). No double headers. Total crowds should be around 270k. Why is this a problem?
