    Expansion of the Women's Competition

5K or more to watch NRLW @ North Sydney? Righto. Pie in the Sky stuff. NRLW won;t be profitable, why would the Bears want to be a part of that? The whole point of the NRLW is to get more girls interested in NRL and its clubs. The NRL and its clubs need to fund it!!!

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

PVL says some money will be spent on ANZ. First time we have heard that? Also, that no the business cases have not yet been completed for any of the grounds and he does not know which one will go first. Kogarah moving to business case stage was announced previously and I assume that any...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Bankwest does not have anything close to a full schedule. 30 - 40 events per year? Genuinely profitable stadiums like the MCG and Docklands have double that. Moving events that might have been @ BW to Penrith doesn't add up. However, Penrith makes a lot more sense than Kogarah. 25K is the...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

GF tickets are ridiculously cheap. If the capacity is halved, just double the price. It will still cost far less than the AFL GF. Maybe triple the price. Or quadruple it. There are lots of benefits for the NRL if demand exceeds supply. It will certainly boost membership if that is the only way...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Agree, but how do you justify upkeep and maintenance on a massive, aging stadium that is empty 360 days each year? Reckon it would end up being bulldozed. Is it such a big deal if you only have 42K at a GF or SOO? Best thing the NRL could do it to move the GF around.

    Brisbane Jets

The whole 'bid' thing is flawed. It pits the best operators against each other, when they should be working together. The first step is an NRL 30 strategic plan for Brisbane - how many clubs? If it is only one new club, then the 'best bid' may not actually be the best option. If it is two new...

    Expansion of the Women's Competition

You are not going to find a dozen new women's franchises independent of the NRL that are prepared to fund a loss making venture. It would never get off the ground and if it ever did, it would be a revolving door of clubs collapsing and coming and going. Plus, who would support the new clubs? It...

    Expansion of the Women's Competition

Both women’s comps exist primarily to drive participation and interest from younger females. Female participation in turn drives government funding for new facilities at community clubs. So it does matter that the NRL is behind the AFL, as more girls playing AFL = more govt spending (new change...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

WE know that, but the stadium and whole precinct becomes a ghost town if it is only used three times a year. Venues NSW (the govt) will still have to spend millions on upkeep for an empty stadium.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Yes, but you are taking games away from Bankwest and ANZ, which are also run by Venues NSW, so for them that is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Good for the game, yes, but how does that make economic sense for Govt funding? Isn't the idea to eliminate the outdated old stadiums, not just move clubs...

    Question on Peter V'landys

League Stars is supposed to be the RL equivalent of Auskick. It is a six or eight week ($99) after school or one day ($49) holiday program usually run at schools. According to the Play NRL website there are 15 centres within 200km of Sydney, and six in SEQ. Auskick is funded by the AFL, is...

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

Can’t be more than 3k - 4K at Kogarah tonight. That, combined with the lack of HD due to Gem having the tennis on, makes it hard watching despite a decent game.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Hard to argue with that. If they want to get Liverpool up they need to kill the idea of renovating suburban stadiums. Can’t have both. It is obviously not the direction PVL is taking. Conversely, any budget announcement to reno suburban stadiums also kills off the possibly of Liverpool in the...

"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

Soccer licences have more value as they can be onsold to rich European clubs just like players can. This is a ridiculous money grab. The team with the best bid should be the 17th team, not the one silliest enough to risk sending themselves broke with a huge buy in.

    News Coronavirus and NRL

Cases are steady, so at least 50/50 that will be out of lockdown Friday. If the MCG was a sellout and Qld did not offer $8m, I reckon they may have held off on any relocation announcement until this Thursday, when the Vic govt will announce what is happening with lockdown. Also, Perth have a...

    News Coronavirus and NRL

Good outcome. The crowd this year would have been well down due to the uncertainty of people travelling from interstate and the reluctance of Melbournians to return to live sport in the usual numbers. Trading that out for 2024 & 2026 when things are back to normal is a good result for all parties.

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

There is no way that $200m for Kogarah will pass the business case test. And what is the reason that they are pushing for the stadium that is the least used, and the most recently upgraded, to get $200m spent on it?

"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

How many people in Brisbane actually follow the local RL and would have any negative feeling of the Dolphins brand? 500? 1000? Aren't the crowds only a few hundred for Intrust Cup? Even if it is 5,000, or 10,000 that is a drop in the ocean of the 2,500,000 people in Brisbane. Dolphins is a good...

"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

Surely these organisations are employing consultancy firms to prepare detailed, 1, 3, 5 & 10 year plans around player development, fan & community engagement, financials, etc.

"It’s very realistic to say that we’ll have a second team in Brisbane in 2023": V'landys

You are usually better researched PR. Everyone is aware of what titoelcolombiano said. Dolphins are miles in front of the other bids. It won't be the only consideration, but they won't admit a team without a significant ongoing revenue stream not matter what else is offer. A club without deep...
