    Tyre tread depth for pink slip

    Just getting my pink slip done and the mechanic said that it needs four new tyres because the minimum tread depth is 5mm. Does anyone know if that's true? I always thought it was around 1.5mm. I've been to the mechanic once before and he was a bit dodgy, just wondering if anyone knows for sure.
