The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I would suggest extremely difficult and costly to build where the railway yards and zero chance of happening. Doomben would also be very unlikely as is just a thought bubble from the Gold Coast Mayor. In terms of location I believe the best location is the RNA Showgrounds and getting the RNA...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

With Government budgets the way they are these days, the only way this sort of thing is happening would be through joint private public finance model that involved more than just building of stadiums.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Victoria being shut out is a great result for NRL and the Storm. RA was going to get $100 million, regardless of where matches are held. Victoria will always be AFL territory, but this decision ensures the NRL will remain and always will be the dominant other oval football code in the second...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

I’m sure they do to a limited degree, but this was more about leveraging off a new national u21 competition to really ramp up the pursuit of young talent into the game, especially the Pacific nations. Maybe they could use it to get a few US athletes on board who don’t want to end up with...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I actually don’t mind that as a location. Would depend on costs and issues with land resumption. I say that as someone who prefers VIC Park over a redeveloped Gabba.

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

RA go for the big sugar rush of signing a player like Suaalii on overs and get some initial publicity. NRL needs to concentrate on slowly choking union out by taking away the promising juniors and ensuring the Wallabies remain a mid tier country. Their television broadcast money will fall even...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

That’s why I think another NZ team will eventually help NRL become the dominant code in the Pacific by opening up the pathways for their juniors and those from the Pacific Islands. They should offer or require all players in any future u21s either free university or a trade they can do whilst...

Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

Should focus their efforts on junior players that they can get into the system early. No point wasting millions on established players. Cut RA’s production line off at the knees.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I would make the new oval stadium at least 60k in VIC Park. Build the Brisbane Live Arena near the Gabba. Knock down the Gabba and develop apartments/shops/green space. Eventually knock down Suncorp and rebuild it into a modern 70k stadium. Might need to use new oval stadium for a couple of...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That design looks like it would be ridiculously expensive and a nightmare to build. I don’t think it was put forward as a serious costed proposal, probably more aimed at generating a bit of publicity for the architects. End of the day, I am not too concerned about the impact of a new stadium...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I’m sure most of the people turning up wouldn’t have stepped foot into that park for the last 6 months. The putt putt, driving range and dining venues might get a bit of use, but most of the park doesn’t see much activity. It certainly didn’t get much use as a golf course. If there is...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

It’s either going to be a renovated Gabba or a stadium at Victoria Park, with maybe some minor renovations of Suncorp. If we are going to be spending a lot of money on an oval stadium for the Olympics, as a local resident, I would rather it be a new one at Victoria Park and actually get a...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

If you were going to build a boutique stadium, you would probably do it at the Albion paceway. The land where the Gabba is would be too valuable to plonk a suburban stadium on.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

The reporting seems to suggest that the u21s is the priority. I haven’t seen anything suggesting they have decided to bring back the national reserve grade just yet. Although that may change.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Flying 2 teams around everywhere would come at a cost. They could either do a national reserve grade or a national u21s but not both at the present time. For the casual viewer, not people on these forums, the u21s holds more appeal, which is why the NRL will go with this. It is also an...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I agree, no way they would build a new stadium and keep the Gabba as a suburban cricket oval. It is a prime inner city site serviced by public transport and the soon to be completed cross river rail. It would have to be either sold to developers or used for major Government infrastructure

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

There is no way you could add 20000 seats without doing a complete knock down rebuild, which won’t be happening anytime soon.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Very much doubt it. I don’t think there are a lot of people crying out for a national reserve grade. Just continue to invest in making the QLD and NSW Cup stronger competitions.
