New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

However, his success with the Chiefs in Super Rugby and dominance at Under-20 level with New Zealand’s “Baby Blacks” proved Rennie’s methods were exceptional. And after being given a steer in the right direction, George wasted no time in sounding out Rennie to help forge an identity from which...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

There’s been a couple of pushes to consolidate stadiums and to have Warriors as one of Eden Parks tenants but it’s been met with massive resistance each time.

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

There’s been talk of it but fears it will just dilute Australia’s competitiveness more

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Was very popular early on as all nations had competitive teams. Noticed this change in a big way about 2010, whilst early on was great to see the NZ teams dominate it got a bit boring after a bit (same as with Bledisloe). Aus steadily declined in standard, SA got too political and obvious other...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Hence the laugh about the U turn. People were endlessly bagging MT Smart pre covid but all of a sudden it’s the place to be

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Obviously Eden park is similar to Accor in its game day experience if the crowd isn’t past a certain level but find it interesting the U-turn on MtSmart. Pre Covid most were desperate for a new site, yes you have your ‘Carlaw park traditionalists’ but the location for Mt Smart is still pretty...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Theory is that’s why the bid has tended to be South Island centric Rather than “Southern” as previous bids have been. Also curiously Warriors all of a sudden committing to CHCH games next few years

Injury toll isn’t helping either but hope we can get back into form. Inability to put in a full 80 min performance and inability to convert points in our dominant periods is concerning though. In answer to your question I lived in NZ until I was 29 Mostly in Hastings and Wellington but also...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The thread highlights something else over and over- an assumption of how things work in NZ- particularly around the sporting landscape. When these (often false) assumptions are challenged the response is more often than not to screech “union troll” or “alt” unable to comprehend there are others...

I think Moffatt approached the other bud but was told “no thanks” Could image it’d be a much stronger case with a United bid rather than competing bids for the same market

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Also taking into account social media algorithms bombard you with content you want to see, causes a bit of an echo chamber. Truth is likely somewhere in the middle - union is in a bit of a slump, Warriors are on a high. Problem is we’ve seen both of these scenarios plenty of times before but...

    What are the crowd numbers?

    Major expansion U-turn is needed

Yeah that’s what I noticed too, the scenario I mentioned would be more likely to see a few seats a scattered but blocks would maybe suggest sponsor freebies etc? Conspiracy theorist in me could suggest another explanation in that “sponsor tickets” could fluctuate in order to guarantee a sell out...

    Major expansion U-turn is needed

Interesting the amount of empty seats we are seeing in ‘sold out’ games. From what I’ve been hearing there’s a decent amount of people buying season tickets and only going to selected games as it’s more cost effective than buying per game. Eg buying a 10 game pass for $300 and going to say 7 of...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

The IP for those teams is owned by NZRU and the players are centrally contracted- NZRU isn’t going to just hand that over to a rival code. What the difference in just starting from scratch? The grass roots and pathways are still a massive hurdle to a sustainable player base

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Presuming you are serious..Just using the Hurricanes as an example why would they ‘defect’? Currently the Franchise has 8 provincial partners to consider 3 of which are in the top division of NPC (let’s say NSW cup equivalent) to draw as feeders. Within each of those provincial partners there...

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Yes NZRU owns the NZ franchises including The Crusaders and The Hurricanes. ‘Christchurch’ Crusaders’ and ‘Wellington’ Hurricanes don’t exist all the clubs are multiple province models that don’t have a regional name before the mascot (similar to The Dolphins)

New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

They may not have the talent but they’ve got the money. The likes of South Africa and France have to potential to dominate league if it were able to flourish there. There’s also a couple of emerging Union nations like Georgia and Romania that have potential also
