    The Desolation of Smug

Dragons won their fourth in 1959. So the Panthers have broken a 65 year drought of winning 4 in a row. Parra were close to doing it in '84.

    Melbourne "No Try"

A couple of points. Can't see a clear image of the ball touching the ground. We ar kinda assuming the ball was grounded. Another point is Howarth's reaction. He wasn't entirely convinced that he scored.

    2024 GF | PREMIERS - Penrith 14-6 Melbourne @ Accor

Congratulations to Penrith. Unbelievable- four in a row. We probably won't see this in our lifetime again. As for the Storm, it is tough to lose a GF, but as long as Bellamy is coach, they will be back. The best team won on the night.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Another factor for the Storm is population growth in Melbourne. In the early 2030's, Melbourne is projected to have a population of 6 million. It is currently over 5 million. When the Storm entered the comp back in '98, the population was just over 3.3 million. Even in their lean years, I think...

    2024 GF | PREMIERS - Penrith 14-6 Melbourne @ Accor

Two best teams all year deserve to be in a GF. For Bellamy, it would be a great achievement to win one without the "big 3" involved. If Bellamy succeeds against Penrith, he should get a statue outside of AAMI Park. As for Penrith, a four peat may well be historic. The last time a team tried...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

You mentioned Loftus. What about Solander Fields? It would still be relatively close to the leagues club and hotel.

    Next coach sacked 2024

Geez, Kevvie was so close last year. Twelve months later, he is out the door. Maguire and Slater would be the two options, however, Slater has ruled himself out...

    PNG's back.

They could link up with Dapto Canaries too.

    2024 Crowd Watch

AAMI Park wasn't available last year for few weeks because of the WWC. So the Storm didn't have much of a choice. The last time Origin was played at Docklands was in 2012. In 2016, the AFL bought (as it was known at the time, ) Etihad Stadium.

    Please, anyone else in 2021

The thing is, I don't mind seeing Roosters, Storm or Penrith dominate, because they are raising the bar. It is up to the other 14 teams to improve themselves and catch up.

    2024 Crowd Watch

The simple solution is to have Saturday night/ Sunday arvo schedule in weeks 2 and 3. In week 1, the highest tv rating game was Canterbury v Manly, which was on Sunday afternoon. The value of a Sunday afternoon timeslot is it leads into the news. Plus the GF is on a Sunday, not a Saturday.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Canterbury is the key for Homebush to become an 80k to 90k rectangular stadium one day. A few weeks ago on a Friday 6pm timeslot, 35,500 turned up. That's bonkers! And of course over 50,000 came in week 1. It was the Dogs first finals appearance in eight years. If anything, the code needs a...

Agree. It takes years to build a strong brand. Why start from scratch?

Just leave it as NRL. The National Rugby League in the title doesn't associate with any country.

    2024 Crowd Watch

You would add the Wests Tigers to the list too. In 2005, in the old SFS against the Broncos, they got over 36,000. In the same year, Dragons prelim final was attended by over 41,000. And of course 71,000 against the Dragons in another prelim final in 2010. Unfortunately Wests Tigers have been...

    2024 Crowd Watch

Bear in mind, you have to take Qld Country Bank Stadium into account, where it holds 25,000. It would be unfair on the Cowboys to host a prelim in Brisbane, some 1300 kms away. In 2021, Origin was held in Townsville and with the aid of temporary seats, the crowd was over 27,000. As for Penrith...

    2024 Crowd Watch

When Bluebet Stadium returns, the capacity will be lifted to 25,000. IMO, that should be the minimum capacity to host a finals game.
