Wiki v Menzies: Farewell v Farewell

Both icons of our great game. You cannot compare champions. More importantly, they command the utmost respect for the way they represent the game off the field. Kav

Vatuvei and Ropati were also injured - this year we have a full complement. Kav

    Au Revoir mon petit general'

Stacey was a remarkable half back - totally lacking in arrogance but with all the skill (not many other halves could boast such a profile). They were the personal characteristics that endeared him to kiwi supporters and foes alike. There was no better sight than Stacey in full flight; his little...

Woman drops sex assault complaint against Kiwis players

The police have stated that "some consensual sex" was involved with the inference that it went somewhat further than that. The female does not want to press charges due to "personal circumstances". The players concerned have admitted their roles to NZRL management and have been disciplined. No...

Woman claims she was sexually violated by Kiwi league players

The woman does not know the men involved - therefore a bit early to be blaming members of the Kiwi team. The manager of the Angus Inn has told media that the Kiwis have stayed there previously without any trouble and she is surprised at the allegations. Let's keep an open mind about this even if...

    Matai - Off or On?

As a kiwi, I don't think it would have made much difference to the final result (may be a a 30 point win rather than 50). Australia always had more firepower than us and our halves were diabolical. Eddie Paia from the junior kiwis would have offered much more in creativity and organisation...

Wests Tigers are a Disgrace - RE: Banning Farah and Sheens

No club should be able to deny a player international selection. This shows both the IRLB and the NRL in a poor light when we need to make the most of our opportunities to expand on the international front. The NRL should have penalties for clubs that do not release players without good cause...

    Female sideline commentators

You never know Charlie, but it might be quite refreshing to have a female perspective on the game. Spectators and viewers are not solely male but probably increasingly female. and this idea might provide further opportunity to extend the market to those of the fairer sex. Kav

    Fiji made for RL?

All the island nations are better suited to league than union. They just like to run the ball and have all the ball handling skills needed. They have never played the union game in the traditional manner - rucking, mauling, driving - that is not their style. Add to that their size and strength...

    Who's the best hooker

That depends on who's giving out the award. It is all a matter of opinion as "best" cannot be defined objectively unless you use stats as your base. Incidentally, I read somewhere on here that Monaghan was picked in the "best" team of the year by someone only using stats (the guy also picked...

Time to strike while the iron is hot...

Admitting another NZ team would offer a further opportunity for the best NZ footballers to play professional rugby league. The spectacular performances and success of the Warriors this season has been such that polls show that the sporting public would rather watch them than inter provincial...

    Who's the best hooker

In terms of a hooker's impact, creativity, kicking ability, organising ability, try scoring and try assisting qualities, defense and courage, I would not go past Michael Monaghan. What a loss to the NRL. Kav

Last night Wallaby loss shows why Union the inferior game

The losses by the Wallabies and the All Blacks are a fillip for the league code in this part of the world; particularly here in NZ. The spectacular form shown by the Warriors has converted many traditionalists and hopefully this will be carried on by a strong performance by the Kiwis next...

Slow-Mo of Crocker/Slater Hit on Stewart

League: The Greatest Game of All

I like league for the following reasons (in no particular order): 1. The equal opportunity given to teams to score points. 2. The lack of competition for possession. 3. The one on one aspect. 4. The versatility of players. 5. The "personality" players. 6. The emphasis on try scoring...

Slow-Mo of Crocker/Slater Hit on Stewart

Accidental or not, it warranted a penalty. Kav

Slow-Mo of Crocker/Slater Hit on Stewart

So you believe hitting someone around the head (while they are extremely vulnerable) is a manly act? Just look where Slater's arm is in relation to Stewart's head ie above it. These sort of tackles are used by the media to drag our game down, especially if they escape penalty Kav

Slow-Mo of Crocker/Slater Hit on Stewart

I believe Slater hit him high and was the main culprit. Stewart was falling from Slater's hit when Crocker came in to finish him off. Whether Crocker's head shot was accidental or deliberate is not clear as Stewart was already falling but, in any case, Slater should have been penalised. Kav

    We should take notice

Perhaps I just don't like to whinge, Misty! Actually, I don't mind the night games during the season as I can watch them in succession on the tele but finals are special and deserve to be seen in their best light ie in the daytime. Kav
