    New Counties?

Acctually. you prove my point, To date, no "new natiion" has come close tp equalling Lebanonon's succcess on RL. Is this the exception or the rule?

    New Counties?

I want RL to expand!!! But the fact that fact that you can find 17 Australians of Maltese decent who play RL, does not mean that RL is played in Malta, or that these 17 players represent Malta. Likewise, it is relatively easy to find 17 players of WI decent in the UK and Australial, but do...

    New Counties?

Posted: Fri Mar 26, 2004 12:03 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yanto et al, I understand your frustrations but you need to accept the fact that the big pot of 'development' cash you are all hankering for simply...

    New Counties?

I know I'm asking for grief, but here goes... Popping up everywhere? NO!!! They are only popping up in SYDNEY! With all due respect to WI, Singapore, Greece and others, and their plans for the futures, but IMHO a nation does not exist in a international sport until the organisers of the...

    NFL Quiz

The Bears are one of the two, but they did not play in Chicago (nor Canton), and they were not known as the Bears. The other oldest team also once called Chicago home.

    NFL Quiz

FYI all, American Football is sometimes called Gridiron because at one time in its early development, the field had solid lines, I believe at 10 yd intervals, going the length of the field, in addition to the solid lines going side to side. These lines limited the movement of players across...

    Serbian rugby league

Maybe a bit harsh here. The RLIF contains at least 2 of the 3 most successful and profitable Rugby comps in the NRL and ESL. However the RLIF seems more interested in "inventing" RL playing nations using Aus and UK based players, than supporting the development of RL in nations new to the sport.

    russian tour

Given that this tournament commemorates Victory Day, just as the ANZAC Day test commemorates the Aus and NZ forces in the Great War, it is not unreasonable to limit this tourny to nations that at least supported the allied cause. WWII weighs much heavier on Russia than the other allies...

    How good is Curling???

Curling was the surprise daytime ratings winner of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics. NBC is now counting on Badminton to be the 2004 Summer Games equivalant.

Lifetime armchair league fan chooses to play rugby

Screeny, physicality is one thing, and I will grant you that the average RL match has more excitind 1-on-1 tackles than the average RU match. However, strategy and tactics add a different dimesion to RU. Given that RL sides are virtually guaranteed posession of the ball for 5 tackles, it...

    Prediction.....

Guys, don't talk like a NZ washout has never occured before. I was only 3 years ago that that the semis matchups were the Brumbies v. the Reds and the Sharks v. the Cats. Don't look now, 3 SA semifinalists is becoming a real possibility. If the Stormers beat the Brumbies today, the will...

    Russian news

Not sure who is leading this, but it is not surprising and should prove to be a positive development. Throughout continental Europe, and in particular central Europe, eastern Europe and Scandinavia, it is not uncommon for sports clubs known primarily for soccer or ice hockey, to field teams in...

    The future of RU

I love it when the the uninformed make judgements on RU. OK, time for some facts! Since 1987 there have been 5 RUWC's. At least 80 nations have competed for places in the competition. while 23 maqtions have achieved that goal. A total of 12 nations haved reached the quarter-finals, and...

    all arse up

While I personnally would love to see the S12 be a true 22 week Home ane home comp, I don't see either NZ or SA sacrifising their very successful domestic competitions for an expanded S12. I work for the world's largest travel agency, and I can safely say that 1 four week Aus and NZ tour by...

    all arse up

Actually South Africa has 4 franchises. Not quite true in this case. Only 3 of the the 10 all-NZ S12 matches have been played thus far. Last year's finalists, and this year's favorites, the Blues and the Crusaders, have simply not played well against the much maligned Chiefs, and non-NZ...

    Article from Savannah

Sorry Roopy, the US Eagles - SA Springboks match in Houston in Dec 2001, drew more 15,000 to a 30,000 seat stadium. 15,000 is my estimate, I WAS there, but "official" reports were closer to 18,000. Either way, it is larger than the capacity of the stadium in Savannah. I hope for a good...
