This is tough one, it obviously didnt effect the outcome of the game but its still a pretty horrible mishap. There nearly needs to be a blanket rule. If it gets noticed mid game, Sin bin for the captain. Its up to the clubs trainer to report it to the interchange official. IF they dont report it and it gets found out by the NRL after the game, loss of points. If they lost anyway $100,000 fine.

The Broncos 2004 one still burns me as the 14th man scored a try in an 8 point win, they were behind in the game when the incident occured. I still have no idea how the points were ever awarded back to them. To make it worse the Tigers missed the finals by 2 points.

Pre NRL, I’m sure the Seagulls were stripped of their points for having an extra player on the field. Remember Wally having a whinge about how he’d rather pay a fine than getting points docked? TBF I think it was their only win of the season at the time.

NQ 2000 vs Parra at Parra.

The look on John Buttigiegs face when he came over to the 50 or so of us NQ fans after the game on the eastern side to thanks us for being there and then told us about the extra player would and we'll lose the points was heartbreaking.

It's actually pretty simple. Player has interchange card in his hand. NRL official won't take the card until he's allowed to run on the field.

If player gives the card to anyone other than the NRL official, the club is in the wrong.
If player gives the card to the NRL official, the NRL is in the wrong.

In this case I think it's Souths who were in the wrong, but given it was a single play and of no consequence, a fine is sufficient.
I think because the process spans 3 (trainer, player and NRL official) losing the points is not really a fair option, unless they went on without being told.

As if a club like Souths would face any serious consequences.

They've been flogged with a wet lettuce.

The ineligible man made a hit up. They have gained advantage imo. One has to wonder if the Warriors or Titans had done similar what the result would be
