A standalone celebratory match in Melbourne to commemorate Test cricket's 150th anniversary in 2027 is a feature of an extended men's hosting rights schedule released today by Cricket Australia.

While details are yet to be finalised for the Australia-England fixture that honours the inaugural Test played at the MCG from March 15-19 in 1877, it is expected to rival the memorable Centenary Test staged 100 years later at the same venue.

So poms coming out for a one off test? Surely it cant be another nation?

We have the ashes that year in the UK - 2027

Similar to what they did in 1977 with the Centennial test. That year every living Ashes player attended the game. Be good if they can do that again.

This was the game where David Hookes smashed Tony Greig for 5 consecutive 4s in the over and Rick Mckosker batted with a broken jaw.

In 1980 they played another test to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first ashes test in England. Of course it was washed out.

brilliant and memorable game, remember it mainly for Derek Randalls incredible 175 and Lille's ability to just bowl his arse off and never give up

Rod Marsh hundred too.

Australia won by 45 runs the exact same margin/result as the first ever test.

I reckon the Cricket LU should meet up in Melbourne for this one off test.

I am already thinking of doing this one will be cheaper then Boxing Day especially accdomation.

Never been to the MCG yet.

Great idea

Never seen any match there but did the MCG and Museum tour last year , was pretty good. Not a bad seat in the house really

I tell you what would be very good value for money with flights / accomodation and game day tickets . The women’s ashes test late Jan next year at the MCG. I’m contemplating this one.
