The knights are very close to the west magpies f/a. They actually have slightly worse attack. I think magpies were about 39 points conceded to 12 points scored. The knights are 35 conceded and 10 scored. That's a game

Obviously the knights have time to turn it around.

The knights are unusually bad.

So is it still Wayne Bennett, the Brisbane Broncos, tpas, the nrl and Santa claus fault like it was when the Broncos towelled up this lot?

Last time this happened I said it was going to happen again but the anti Broncos sooks are nowhere to be seen this time.
Nothing but a pack of merkins.

Bennett definitely played a hand in why these merkins get bashed every week.

They have always been a bit of a two bit operation (much like the useless Titans) but having that team full of older players was never gonna bode well in 3-4 years.

The Knights have shown the potential to be as bad as the 1999 Magpies. Up to them to avoid that fate.
Looking up points conceded only, compared to average by all teams, the Knights are not yet as bad as the 1999 Magpies, who are the worst in the NRL years. There were worse in previous years though.

I haven't looked up all years, I'm not that keen, there may be worse somewhere. But these are some of the most famous serial thrashing recipients.

Points Conceded As % of Average of all teams

Canterbury 1935 220% (they did not even run last)
Canberra 1982 209%
Wests 1999 189%
Knights 2016 175%
Roosters 1966 170%
Penrith 1980 157%
Parra 2013 150%

Note that both clubs that exceeded 200% went on to win the comp in the same decade.

The Knights won't turn it around, well not this year.

There will be even bigger floggings coming I reckon as their resolve dies.

Tough times ahead!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Didn't hear many knights fans complaining when Bennett took them within a win of the gf.
They're sure as shit bitching now though.
When the Broncos copped that flogging from the raiders there wasn't any of this unfair, uneven comp bullshit then.

It means nothing for the game, people need to stop being melodramatic about this. There hasn't been a sporting competition in history where the worst team hasn't had seven shades of shit belted out of them a few times through the season. This year's Knights are on the worse end, sure, but that's really the end of it.

Any discussion of TPAs and the salary cap not working here is nonsense - if anything the Sharks are an example of the system working. They were on deaths door for 3 years. They hit rock bottom. Then they stuck to their guns, cleaned out managerial deadwood, backed their coach, and recruited smartly, with a vision, over a few years. A bit of a drug cheating hiccup and all that, but they've come out the other side of it a strong club with a great roster.

Congrats to Cronulla, a few years ago it was them on the other side of this kind of score. Here's hoping Newcastle can show the same kind of backbone.

I agree with a lot of what you say, Adam. I was saying to a friend this arvo that Cronulla have built this team over the past five years. They have built the team around their experienced players. Newcastle will build a team. They have magnificant juniors.

He is such the stereotype of the chip on the shoulder bronco fan with his crazed grudges against any slight (see his months long reaction to the panthers loss) that I'm pretty sure he is a supporter of another team pretending.

So you agree he screwed them over?

I think THE CHAMP might be a few french fries short of a happy meal.

Absolute crap.

To use a pejorative SJW term that often doesn't apply when they use it but absolutely applies here, a lot of people are wilfully ignorant of their team's privilege.

f**k no.
He gave them what they wanted.
A competitive football side.
The butthurt bandits are out in force tonight i see.

I find it really odd the way some people get so defensive about Bennett's failed strategy at the Knights.
He gave them a decent shot at the '13 title, but long term, it has been exposed as a plan that didn't work.
Anywho, it's not his problem now.

I am still waiting for the big uproar about the tpa's after a Knights flogging, as of yet it hasn't happened

Its certainly a problem for the knights. Its part of the reason they are paying near on their full salary cap for a nsw cup team
