Maybe the Reds and the Bears should go for a joint bid

Western Bears?
What’s in it for WA? all we’d end up with is constant Sydney media speculation that the bears are moving back to ns oval! If we’ve got perth owners willing to put $10mill on the table we don’t need a joint ownership club with another state LC. We can have a partnership with a reserve grade nsw cup or Intrust cup side without handing over club ownership.

I don’t think the Bears thing is ideal but if it convinced the NRL in their myopia to give WA a licence would it be worth it?

Depends on the ownership model and the reasons why, just to get a club in now I’d say no. I’d rather wait twenty more years and get a succesful club one day than one that was blighted with politics and old bears stooges bemoaning the lack of games at ns oval!

if it was just the brand but owned by WA people and everything based in WA the I could live with it. West coast bears doesn’t sound too bad even though we don’t have any bears lol

I think the Bears option mightn’t be for Perth but it might not be an option for somebody if managed properly. You could bring some old Bears fans back as a leverage for the initial phase of the new team until they develop their own supporter base down the track whilst you can also start doing something about North Sydney

Well if they strike up a deal, Perth would have a leagues club, sydney support base, sydney feeder club and in return Bears would have a place in the NRL and new fans. Besides they share the same colours so it could work.

By LC I presume you mean there LC paying in, my understanding is they dont generate much profit so unlikely to be able to contribute anything major,

Sydney supporter base? Hmmm maybe a couple of thousand die hard out of state members.

Sydney feeder club, we can have that anyway without taking on a sydney brand

not really, though I suppose we do have red and black amongst the other colours in two of the potential brands

The Bears have met with one of the bid leaders previously.

Perth wouldn't be able to have a Leagues Club in the traditional sense, as there is law in WA preventing poker machines being anywhere outside of Burswood (Crown) Casino. At least that used to be the case, but I'm pretty sure it still is.

Yes that is still the case. Despite that wc Eagles have managed to become one of the richest sports clubs in the country. Goes to show you don’t need Pokies if you have a large active fanbase and Have plenty of corporate sponsors.

Interesting how would the financials be for a Perth NRL side considering you don’t have that leagues club or similar backing. Are there enough corporates left over after West Coast and Fremantle?

Plenty, Eagles have Lendi and Hungry Jacks as majors plus BHP, Audi Perth, AGL, CUB, Telstra, Edith Cowan University, 7West, Virgin Air.

Freo have Woodside Petroleum and Programmed as majors, BeyondBank, McDonald's, Toyota Perth, RAC and a bunch more.

Force have FMG, Harvey Beef, Santos, TribeTech, CD Dodd, Gage Roads and more.

Wildcats have PentaNet, P&N Bank, HIF, KnightCorp, Holman, Tyrepower, etc.

Corporates in WA are in large supply, but they also have a very specific benefit that is quite exclusive to WA and SA. A population that attends sporting events at a rate far beyond the national per capita averages. There is a huge appeal in sponsoring WA sports teams because their fans show up way more often than just about anybody else.

In the case of an NRL team, there's the entire shipping industry (who backed them in the past, first-ever Reds game Baguley Containers had a corporate box at the WACA, my first ever professional game experience as a kid). You've got a whole bunch of energy companies, breweries, tourism groups. Off the top of my head, groups that I know of in WA from previous jobs who'd be open to sports sponsorship; Toll Chemicals, Qube, Cash Converters, Clough, SGIO, HBF, Wesfarmers, iinet, SpudShed.

Plenty of big money groups to get behind.

I’ve heard on the grapevine there is a very big mining related company keen to be involved. Cummins has said he will pay six figures for cash converters to be main sponsor. Exposure into Sydney and brisbane is something the afl clubs can’t offer at same level

What about the reds supporters, the jersey has a western reds logo on it
There is no Reds supporters group page anymore as they don't exist. The only reason they are still being mentioned is due to Puddy talking about them.
