The whole thing reeks of nostalgia first. So much thought is being given to the old Sydney fanbase without thinking what happens in 30-40 years time when the vast majority of the Gen X and Boomer Bears fanbase are no longer with us. Who from the area is going to care about the WA Bears in 30-40 years time? How are they going to get North Shore kids who have no ties to the Bears to become interested in a WA team?

The whole thing is far from optimal, if the move to WA was done back when they were first left out, they would have had a chance of maintaining a Sydney fanbase that would still be somewhat sizeable in another 20-30 years, like the Swans have in Melbourne. Kids of South Melbourne supporters in Melbourne have been raised being able to go and see the Swans play regularly, keeping the support alive. There’s been over 20 years since the Bears were left out, there’s a generational gap in support for them that will see the Sydney base drop off rapidly down the line.
Actually much of the Swans support in Melbourne is from people relocating from Sydney (or their kids a generation later). Not sure there are many South Melbourne fans left. I was at primary school in the 1980s and most South Melbourne supporters I knew switched to other Vic based teams.

Storm have good away support in Queensland due to the same reasons Perth Bear might have in Sydney’s north.
Combine that with some Perth ex-pats and there is potential for a good away supporter base.

Your club still being around is just nostalgia, you should have stayed in gosford ffs in a brand new stadium

There wouldn’t be, it’s been that long now. A few old South Melbourne fans, some of their kids who followed their parents in supporting them and Sydney expats. The Bears will have the equivalent of the first and will develop the third, but will mostly be missing the second group as there’s been an over 20 year gap since they’ve been a first grade side. A WA side won’t need the Bears to develop WA expat support.

Not needed, not wanted.

I still can't comprehend that a PNG will actually go ahead, its insane.

I'm hoping its a ploy by the NRL to force the cashed up WA state government's hand into committing significant funds for a CoE and stadium upgrades.
Especially for team 18. Give them 6 years to get ready for team 19 in 2030.

No difference whether, png comes in or not, they've already been named as the potential 19th, I'm betting that they do do nothing, no upgrades no nothing, maybe a coe

In this weeks interview they stated they are prepared to support the club to be successful. If Vlandys hasnt already locked in a list of demands in return for a club he wants shooting!

fans, sponsors and investment, same as most clubs these days. The days of clubs needing pokie machines to keep them viable are thankfully over. The NSLC makes little profit and only funds the NS Bears club $134k a year.

I take it you have issues reading? I’m not a parrot but I’ll repeat myself once for you - just because you’re you.

Actually just looked at the annual report. They lost $3.4mill last year.

youd think on $71mill income they could afford to chuck the footy club more than $130k wouldn’t you?

The last photo I saw of Albanese he was cavorting around in a fumbleball scarf.

Politicians can't be trusted. They will say anything at any time to get what they want or to appease. If you're relying on Albo for funding, good luck to ya.
Albo will divert funds to wherever it will win him the next election, not because he prefers NRL (or AFL - he follows both but is an NRL man). Similarly any PNG funding is driven by a fear of China, and nothing else.

There you go - you know how to edit. Good boy. I was wondering when you would find the $70mil revenue - up by $14mil from the previous year.

For a moment I thought surely you couldn’t be that much of a dumbo that you couldn’t read a simple spread sheet. No, you can read a spread sheet but you’re still that dumbo.

As for what they put into a NSW Cup football club - it is what it is. So what are you trying to decipher here? Are you doubting they don’t have the cash flow to put into an NRL club should they get a license? You think they’re spending money to get a bid in because they’re bored?

You realise how much their asset in Tweed is worth alone? Did you read the part yesterday where I mentioned they are looking to expand?

Do you have the faintest clue how any of what I’m saying here works?

No you don’t. Because you’re a muppet.

Perth is still going to have to hook up with some NSW or Qld club for players pathways and development, the same as Storm does. So it might as well be the Bears. It won’t make any difference to the people of Perth whether they get 11 home games or 12. Take the Bears players and any money. Embrace the 2k - 5k away fans you will get a Sydney games (maybe 10k for finals). Start with some history and tradition, even if only half hearted.

Nailed it
