halatau is a ball of muscle - didnt you see the calendar. lol. He can handle to tuff stuff - opening stanza in the game it not about playing expansive doing the basics - he can make some tackles and decent darting runs.

but yes he is a lucky man
- as long as luke is on tour if we had no injuries a la first choice team then he would of been bench hooker.

Covell is the worst selection - tbh i would rather have paddy ah van on the wing.;-)

Kiwis need to worry about choosing the best team instead of worrying about luring aussie based players - like covell. Just b'coz he has aligned himself to kiwis you dont have to pick him.

Halatau has slow distirbution from dummy half. The kickers will not want Justin Marshall type passing while being chased down by Price for charge downs. Price will have a field day.

Also he has no kicking game. As far as i know J Smith from Souths doesnt do much kicking and neither does Inu, so its just Roberts. So everyone is going to target Roberts left foot and with slow delivery from dummy half they will probably beat the pass and get penalised for tackling Roberts to early

The all golds game is 6 days after the wellington test - October 20th. Players who played in the test will most likely not play in that game.

Dont know if thats true, Pricey will not be on the plane by himself to England.

If Price gets injured i wonder who plan B is to play in the All Golds

Is Halligan still a selector? If so, maybe we could blame him for choosing Covell. Can kick goals, but is slow and offers not much else. Anyone else see the similarities?

As much as I hate covel playing for the kiwis?? and its a lot of hate there - he has by his standards had a good season.

From what i've seen he has been one of the sharks best - solid of defense, high balls etc etc. - which might come in handy against wingers like hayne and inglis both good jumpers.
Something which wingers like tuiaki and tupou struggle with sometimes

So with an inexperienced halves and weakened second-rowers - at least he shouldnt leak any points. Still hoping perrett gets brought in though.

Halligan 'stepped down' - though he was probably the one who has been picking him for NZ a and perhaps this is his lasting legacy.

It is true - off course the test team will still be on the plane b'coz they still have four test matches after the all golds. And hardcase but pricey will be travelling with them.
But most of the all golds team will not come from the core of the first test team.

Also I hear webby will be out getting some surgery.

.

Covell has one thing going fo him, he does not fly in off his wing like so many kiwi wingers have done in the past.

R&S whatuira is playing, and 6 out of the 10 are injured. but kemble must have a plan, maybe he's saving some for the test in england? covell is a solid winger, and wont dissapoint. just a thought, maybe they want tuiaki in the forwards?

well i guess saving for the blooding of luke, chase and co for england - probably a smart decision - perhaps if we had SBW, fa'alogo and a full strength backline - then we got blood these guys.

tuiaki in the forwards - yes and no. He did half his time on the paddock this year as a forward - he wasnt as effective though - but definately capable of providing cover.

Covell super-sub - come on for tuiaki's wing and then tuiaki to second-row.

Still awaiting clearance for tuiaki and moimoi to play though - wouldnt be suprised if Stuart complained. RLIF could easily deem to ineligible - NZ wouldnt have time to kick up a fuss -perhaps that why covell has been named in case tuiaki in ineligible.

Then when tuiaki is given the o.k they can drop covell from the squad all together - backstop. lol

He is our best outside back. Of course he is going to be picked, regardless of what competition he plays in.

We've only picked a 19 man squad and there are plenty of rubbish players in that 19. We're also desperately short of wingers- I don't want to contemplate Covell playing and I'd rather not rely on 18 year old Stanley (isn't he really a centre as well anyway?). I'd rather Hape played centre but wing is really the only place I can fit him in, and given the "quality" of the squad, he has to fit in somewhere.
1. Inu
2. Tuiaki
3. Matai
4. Whatuira
5. Hape
6. Roberts
7. Smith
8. Asotasi
9. Faiumu
10. Rapira
11. Pritchard
12. Anderson
13. Mannering
14. Lima
15. Smith
16. Moimoi
17. Halatau

I think this should be the team and I also suspect it will be pretty close to this...

well it would be pretty close to that - considering its a 19 man squad and a team consists of 17 players.

I think they'll pick halatau to start again - (I so wish we have a 60 minute hooker) and faiumu to come off the bench.

And smith to start ahead of anderson

Hey, there's plenty of ways they could switch players between positions :p

I expect Anderson to make the starting line-up, he usually does for the Kiwis, and Smith is a bit of a specialist benchie.

Lima's grand-final performance has left me feeling pretty happy despite the Cayless injury. It's a good prop rotation- Asotasi-Rapira-Moimoi-Lima. A lot of impact there, although I guess not a lot of variety, all 4 of those guys are almost exactly the same build. Our pack has a bit of a short and stocky look to it.

Hopefully Matai will play, he will offer the side some intimidation out wide that will be needed to hopefully put a guy like Hodges off his game

I agree.

One of the reasons why i wouldnt want a guy like Whatuira in the side. Too much of a quiet player, a guy like Hodges or Gaz would run all over all game. Matai provides much more agression, and will intimidate the opposition.

Whatuira is no more quiet than mannering - this season he suffered from hamstring problems earlier in the season and then off the field issues - with not being a offered a new contract b'coz tigers were over the cap.

Hometown and going to england could be the last test in plays in New Zealand - I reckon he is one player we dont have to worry about.

Players like him and Anderson and to a lesser extent halatau - will enjoy the situation to shows their club what they have and are going to miss out on.

Also Im hearing that Luke was not considered because he has some sort of stress fracture or something similar - which rightfully requires rest to heal. sad but he going to be back for a big season next year.
