This is a link to a great scene with outstanding cinematography from Hamburger Hill. The backing song by Nancy Sinatra is pretty cool.

Yeah Hamburger Hill tends to get forgotten with movies like Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.

But its brilliant.

Full Metal Jacket is an outstanding film. Stanley K in most of his films never wanted to film outside the UK, so to make an abandoned gas factory in dour English weather seem so convincing was a masterpiece. I remember reading about the cost at the time of purchasing the massive palm trees and planting them and setting a few on fire was huge. My only criticism and it’s only a personal thing, was they used the Westland Wessex chopper instead of the Huey Uh1. IMHO the Huey is in the top 3 images that you see that reminds you of the war itself. The Wessex was very similar to the Sikorsky H34 as the pommies made the Wessex under contract in the late 50’s and 60’s. The H34 was used early on in the war, but it was rare. The producers had to make do due to the cost of using Uh1’s and importing them was too high. RIP R Lee Emery.

Interesting stuff. I've never really realised they used the Wessex in place of the Huey. I'll have to watch it yet again and pay closer attention. Also, if you want another great R Lee Ermey performance check out his first acting role in The Boys In Company C.

It’s on the list. Did a YouTube search and found the scene where the impossible is done. R Lee Ermey is over shadowed by the Hispanic drill Sgt. Absolute classic scene.
